well as best i can tell neturei karta are still defined as a "very small group" so it seems you hate all but a few jews, id classify that as antisemitism

In German, an identifier such as German, American, etc. does not use a preceding article. So to have been correct, Kennedy should have said "Ich bin Berliner."

And yes, a Berliner is a type of (delicious) jelly-filled donut.

However, give the people of Berlin some credit. They knew damn well what he was saying and I doubt that anyone but an imbecilic dolt would have confused President Kennedy with a jelly donut.

And nobody laughed. That noise you hear in the old coverage is the sound of thousands of Berliners cheering.

Actually, in the about.com article they cover that. That particular line would've had him laughed at, as his accent was atrocious. JFK used the article correctly. "Ich bin ein Berliner" also translates roughly to "I am one with the citizens of Berlin".

More important, though is that you're right about the audience - no one mistook him for standing there and saying he was pastry. That would be comparable to Willy Brandt visiting New York, and stating, "I am a New Yorker",.... and the crowd roars with laughter (not!!) because he just said he was a weekly magazine.
