The Valerie Plame Affair Cliff Notes

I also think that Libby will get a pardon, if he gets one, only after the 2008 election is over and GW Bush has a couple of months to do whatever it is Presidents do between election results and leaving the White House.

Agreed. It will be interesting to see if Libby gets pardoned but it certainly will not happen until after the election. The GOP mucky-mucks will tell him that if McDougal can sit in jail for 18 montsh he can wait til after Nov '08 to get his pardon.

What might be interesting will be if Libby does not agree with that deal but I suspect he will.

Libby isn't in jail yet.

Quite right, but if he wins on appeal then the whole discussion here on pardon becomes moot, right? I am assuming, for the sake of the discussion, that Libby might be imprisoned and that may be unlikely too considering how long things take.

It would be cool if the white house press asked Bush when he's going to fire those responsible for the Plame leak, like he promised when the news broke. That should be the opening question at his next press conference, and it should be the only question any reporter asks until he gives a straight answer.

Conversely, why does a conviction require that sentencing include jail time?
Good question, I don't have an answer to that. I'd just like to see a few of the lying suits in DC go to jail for a while. Some of those arseholes think that their brown is gold and their crap doesn't stink.

It would be cool if the press had the balls in general to ask thought provoking questions.

I agree with Sez, journalism these days is laughable.

Charles Colson was a suit, he went to prison.

Duke Cunningham was a suit, a Congressman, he's guilty, he's going to jail.

Jackoff Abramoff? Going down.

Not just in books.
