Truth Statistics

It's because of people like me who get an account to view attached images but don't come often enough to bother posting.

Except that now I have one post, defeating my own point.

Does this mean the number of posts is inversely proportional to logical thinking?
Yes. Yes it does. The fewer the posts, the smarter the poster.

And, seconding Chimastafunk, registering opens up more options, like searching. Plus you don't need to wait while the admins approve you to make drive-by posts.

Thank you for your compliment. I use Illustrator and Photoshop
to make such images. I have nothing to do today so i train my
skills concerning Charts and Graphs. :)

I know it's OT- but that's friggen awesome.

I'm going to have to look up how to do that- did you pick that up from a book or something? Can you point me in the right direction?

See? Ve haf vays of making you post :D

Welcome, Chimastafunk :)

I learned most of these techniques in school but also by
doing online-tutorials or just experimenting within several
3d/2d programs. A good way to start are these two sites:

http://photoshopsupport.com/tutorials.html
http://www.3dtotal.com/

BTW: I used Illustrator to make the raw charts, copied
them into Photoshop and added all these details like soft
shadows, outlines and so on...

Oh, and welcome Fachverwirrt (ulkiger Name) & Chimastafunk. :p

Hmmm, thought I'd compare it to ApolloHoax. We have only 425 members, but 59 of them are at 100 posts or higher (13.9%) with 20 of them being over 500 and 8 of them being over 1,000. (2 of us have cracked 2,000.) 301 or 70.8% have at least 1 post.

Interestingly enough, although about half of JREF members have no posts, the vast majority of them date back several years.

Well, there could be a caveat there. To the best of my knowledge (but ask the admins), the post cout is a dynamic figure, that is, it reflects the number of your posts existing in the database. Since there has been a number of database purges in the past, some of the zero-posters may be old members that have left and whose posts have been purged from the database.

Others are no doubt people who signed on as members, but never got around to post. This is a large and busy forum, with lots of outspoken and knowledgeable posters (some are even both ;) ), and it can be quite intimidating to newcomers.

Then of course there are sleeping sockpuppets, both ones made for later use, and ones that were created before socks became a rule violation and now left dormant.

There might be yet another kind of passive accounts, I have a couple on other forums myself. If you have a characteristic nick that you prefer to use on all forums (like me), you may register it at forums where you think you might someday want to post, in order to secure it.

What are the sockpuppets or socks, as you call them?

Edit: Never mind. I found it already.

If somebody has to ask, usually several don't know, so:

Sockpuppet, or just sock, is slang for double registrations. People may register several identities on a forum.

There can be some legitimate reasons for that. You may want to have different personalities, like one for very serious debates, and another for having fun.

A more usual reason for doing it, and the reason it has become illegal here, is to circumvent suspension or banning. A troll-type user may register several different identities, then leave most as sleepers. Then when they get suspended or banned, they can switch to another ID and keep posting. They usually soon give themselves away, though.

ETA: Another use we have seen of socks is to get apparant support for your viewpoints by having one or several sockpuppets that pipe in and agree with you in discussions.

This chart has "2" represented twice--as its own category, and as the endpoint of 2-20. Do you mean 3-20, or have you counted some people twice?

Oops, i meant 3-20 users. And i intentionally left an error in one
of the other charts, too. But Gravy didn't debunk it till today. :D

I think the JREF stats might be skewed a bit, since JREF has been around quite a bit longer than the new LC. And it should also be pointed out that all of the Twoofer bannings were for forum rules violations, not for their views. Even Christophera wasn't banned for his views. The LC bannings were for not toeing the Twoof party line.

That's true. To make them more comparable, they would have to have the same timeframe. But there is something interesting though. If I read that correctly, they have banned only one truther at LCF. No matter what they spew out of their mouths and threaten and curse at people. Those are not violations of rules to them. But politely disagreeing with them is.

It's true that JREF is the older forum - but also the bigger one.
So it would be interesting to see the percentages of each forum
but right now i watch the Twoof war between HypeTrip, Jerc and
Russel. :D

are you counting banned socks separately, or combined as one banning? (this goes for both forums)
