Deepak Chopra's New Book Says Afterlife is Scientifically Proven

Your body is not you. If I chop off your arm, your consciousness still exists.
And if I make a pancake, Liechtenstein still exists. You're mistaking the physical processes that form consciousness for the concept of consciousness. The processes are real, and consciousness can't happen without them. Try chopping off my head. There you have it.

I find your generalities about atheists to be unjustified and insulting.

If you are re-incarnated, without any memory of your past life... that's the same as dying. Without memory, you have no personality or experiences or reference, you are not you anymore. People are in a constant state of flux, with the past as reference and the present currently chaning them. If I recycle parts of a computer into another computer, was the first computer reincarnated, even though it has a different OS, new ram, new hard drive and none of the prior data on it?

Reincarnation is a retarded concept.

You nailed that one

Nothing much else to say.

That's exactly the problem with reincarnation (apart from the fact that there is no evidence of it).

The reason you are reincarnated is because you haven't lived a life so perfect and good that you can get to Nirvana. You have to learn from your past actions to become a better and better person, until you finally get out of the karmic wheel.

But...how the hell can you learn from your past actions, if you can't remember any of them?

There is no "afterlife," the term "afterlife," is mistaken because death does not exist. Death does not exist, because death can only exist if your ego exists and if things (including illusions of egos) are capable of being destroyed.

Why do you believe things cannot be destroyed? Are you using somne definition of destroyed that is radically different from how the rest of the world uses the term?

I and mainstream atheists agree on the same facts. What we disagree on is how depressing we ought to view them, how plainly we ought to describe them, and how angrily we ought to react to those who disagree with us.

Do you have any evidence that you and mainstream atheists agree on anything? Do you have any evidence that mainstream atheists are angry or depressed?

Nathyn,

Do you know any atheists? Or are you basing your views on atheists in what you read in news?
I for one say "bless you" when someone sneezes and sing Fa-la-la-la-la-la-la! at the top of my lungs.

also re:
Neither the past nor present moment exist because I can never experience them
Does that mean that the female orgasm doesn't exist because I can't experience one? (I know Marquis, "Who Cares!"). ;)

I think I see where you are coming from, It seems an almost Buddhist point of view. "Life is but an illusion". My own view is Life is not an illusion and you only get one so you better get on with trying to be happy in this life.

They are frustrated in some way because I see them extremely angry and afraid, despite the fact that they live in peaceful, wealthy countries.

Someone singing Christmas carols or saying, "God bless you," after they sneeze infuriates them.

All of that rage with no apparent source is what makes me think it's an existential crisis.

I nominate this as the biggest pile of unfounded nonsense ever posted on the internet.

You don't sound like you know many atheists. I know several IRL and many in here, and that description doesn't sound like any of us.
