If homosexuality has a genetic component then it would seem from the frequency of occurrence that its possible to be an unaffected carrier. I'd guess that the number of carriers would be considerable and the probability of homosexuality being bread out existence is low no matter what kind of social engineering is or isn't taking place.

Eventually, even recessive genes will be bred out if they are selected against(create no progeny).

This is what we call evolution. I'm not sure it would happen so fast, either, but it could have....had not religion intervened....

I had a feeling "recessive" might have been the term I was looking for but wasn't sure. I didn't mean to imply anything positive or negative about the situation.

ETA: Now that I think about it recessive might not be the right word. It seems to refer to situations where if both parents have the gene then the trait is activated. I don't think pairs of genes would necessarily be the trigger.

I'm still not convinced that homosexuality is 100% genetics, personally. I think that a lot of sexuality is also dependant on development at young ages; I mean, how else do you explain sexual fetishes, which are a lot more common than people think? While genetics most likely has an influence, I think that environment is also a major factor. However, I would also say that "choice" doesn't really enter into it.

I'm almost finished Sam Harris's Book "End of Faith." He has some great ideas in there. He implies that our hangup on sex could be based on the idea of virgin birth in the christian bible (which he adds is kinda ironic, since the concept of virgin birth of Jesus was probably due to a translation error way way back). Somehow sex is dirty.

He goes on to talk about victimless crimes (drugs, prostitution, and various sodomy laws). What goes on behind closed doors between consenting adults should not be society's concern. But it is. Why, because it's not just the consenting adults, it's a menage a trois with god joining in.

Still, millions of years of evolution causes me to get a woody when I see an attractive naked woman.
