Measles to kill myeloma?

Genetically modified measles! Oh my God! Next thing you'll know they'll be trying to modify peanuts to eliminate the alergic reaction! It's the Devil's work, I tell you!

Out of curiosity, is there anyone out there that has access to the paper on this? I'd like to read the abstract at least, and see how sound the protocols are.

From the news link the trial doesn't appear to have started yet. I couldn't find a publication listed in PubMed, although there are some papers that describe the development of the engineered virus.

Also, not guaranteeing anything.....I can see if I can access the protocol that would have been submitted for IRB approval.

That would be great! Thank you very much!

This was an interesting article pointed out to me by Loon:

Wow.

Maybe I should head an hour south and stop by the Mayo to ask some questions.

Thanks for the link. This is of particular interest to me since since I was diagnosed with smoldering multiple myeloma two years ago (smoldering means that I have the disease but that is is not yet developped to the point where it can cause any actual harm. It seems all but sure that I will develop full blown myeloma eventually. In the meantime I am receiving no treatment save for regular monitoring 4 times a year).

Thanks again

Then we have something in common. A myeloma tumor destroyed the 9th thoracic vertibrae in my spine. See my avatar. I also am currently smoldering, and under monitor.

ETA: Thread about my mm here:

You make the third person I know of on these forums that have multiple myeloma. Don't be a stranger.

This naturally caught my attention too. My MM is firmly smouldering, and I have been discharged by the clinic, just having quarterly tests and the results by email. I'm also in the low risk group on the basis of antibody titre. At least I hope I still am - awaiting the latest results right now. This new idea looks interesting, but I don't expect to get access to the treatment (if it works) for a long time, as I will have to (a) get active disease, and (b) fail on standard therapy - which isn't a very enticing prospect.

Good to see you again, I am glad you're still smoldering with the rest of us. :)

Fowlsound,

I read your document as well as the complete thread you refered me to. Very well put! I made myself a copy as you have expressed my thoughts much more eloquently then I could ever have.

I must admit that after I finished reading I felt a litlle silly trying to explain to you what SMM meant:footinmou I do hope I can show the same courage and resolve as you when my times comes to deal with this beast (if it comes, my oncologist tells me that I can stay smoldering for many years and die from something else, not that I'm in a hurry mind you!) I hope that both of us and Asolepius as well will keep "smoldering" for a very long time and that we"ll all be there to celebrate when they find a cure for MM.
