Hi!

I know I've read several insightful comments on the "investigation" done by some truther where he flew a small plane over some city to try to show that you cant use cellphones on airplanes.

I just cant seem to find it here, could someone help me (yes, yes, I've searched). Who was this dude, what did he try, why wasnt it right?

Cheers,
SLOB

I was regularly using my cellphone from my trusty C172 at altitudes up to 7000 feet in 2003 in New Zealand...even had one of those nifty connections that allowed you to use your headset to make calls (so you didnt have to take it off to use the phone itself).

Then again, I guess Im just a Government shill.

Ahhh...never mind. A CT hit me with a Youtube link, I didnt feel the need to waste another 10 minutes seeing someone spout the same old material again, so I assumed it was Dewdneys test. It wasn't. It was some japanese show claiming that the calls were done from the ground using computer synthezised voices...

When I thought it couldn't get any dumber...

There were just two calls made from cellphones - both at 9:58 am on United Airlines Flight 93. The plane was flying at approximately 5000 feet above sea level at that point, over a part of Pennsylvania that has the highest elevations in the state (mountain ridges up to/exceeding 3,000 feet). Do the math... the plane wasn't at such a high altitude. As already mentioned, all the other phone calls came from airphones. So, I'm not sure what kind of experiments would really be relevant.

Its been often stated that the biggest problem cellphones have in the air is where they try and negotiate with too many ground stations at once due to lack of line-of-sight obstruction and it pisses off the network. One potential problem with Dewdneys experiment is that is was over a city, where you have an extremely high density of ground stations versus out in the sticks (which is where the 9/11 cell calls took place supposedly) and the phones would only have 1 or 2 ground stations to try and negotiate with.

I also understand that city stations are weaker, as opposed to country-side ones.

However the japanese TV-program from the Youtube clip I was served didnt even recognise if they used the type of cellphones used on the planes.

This is yet another case of Twoofers confusing "can't" with "don't want you to". You CAN make cell phone calls from planes, but the powers that be DON'T WANT YOU TO (for whatever reason). Supposedly they were concerned that cell signals would interfere with avionics, but that's been shown to be false.

Similarly, you CAN fly airliners in all kinds of ways, including upside down, but the powers that be DON'T WANT YOU TO. The reasons for that are more obvious.

You Gonna Believe Your Lyin' Eyes?

One thing is certain: The people who actually use their cell phones while flying in commercial airliners know that the liars are lying. I fly to Florida fairly often. About twenty minutes outside of Fort Lauderdale, passengers start calling friends or relatives on their cell phones. I know it happens: I see it.

Try explaining to people who watched from their office windows as the second plane hit the WTC that there were no planes. The liars must realize that it is impossible to peddle their snake oil to everyone.

No they dont! your fellow passengers are just government shills just talking into their dissconnected cell phones trying to propagate the myth! :D
