Seems our Trent has gone a bit (albeit fictional) conspiracy-nuts with his new apocalyptic concept album "Year Zero".

It's a bit of an alternate reality game as promo for the album, and so harmless. But I'm seeing them tomorrow night, and am now a bit worried in case he's a closet CTist, and has Loose Change or something playing in the background!

Where did you hear that???

Hah! LC message board back in '06.

"I was at a Tool show a few days after 9/11 and Maytard Keenen said 'American's gonna be surprised to find out it did this to itself".

Or something.

Tool are messed up though.

What? An anti-establishment metal band are 9/11 truthers? No...I never heard the like...lol

I think Keenan's take is that the US is a big nasty evil empire of earth-destruction that is so mean and nasty to all the Arabs that they hit back by carrying out 9/11. He's of the "we brought this on ourselves" angle rather than the "our government did it" angle.

But then you just never really know with Keenan...

From what I've read of Trent, he's a very rational guy in real life. I'd chalk up Year Zero to brilliant commentary; asort of a cousin to The Flying Spaghetti Monster.

It honestly looks like NIN is trying to profit off of the Lost Experience via his own knock-off. I doubt that it means that Trent will fall into the CT void.

Tool? NIN?

Not quite engineers.....but the twoofers will take what they can get.

Someone in Trent's camp read Foucalt's Pendulum and has a hard on for Lost. It all seems interesting, but no. I don't think they're advocating a conspiracy theory involving a giant four fingered hand coming down from the sky.

I wasn't suggesting that Year Zero was anything more than a concept album with multimedia trimmings; Trent does seem to have his head screwed on, and he's a clever chap. It just made me worry that he was going down the "real" CT route now that he's straying into political territory with his music. But there are no overtly political statements or comments on real world events as with say, Rage. Which is as it should be.

The more I look into it, the more it seems that he's avoiding making real world statements and more drawing fictional parallels, so people can take from it what they will. He's certainly made no on-stage or interview comments to suggest he's an actual CTist like Matt Bellamy or Corey Taylor. So panic over as far as I'm concerned. It's interesting to me though that he's using fictional conspiracy material in Year Zero (mainly the government mind-control aspect). In that respect it's more of a musical V for Vendetta or The Matrix than it is a "Loose Change".

Makes a change from metal bands telling kids to worship Satan and mutilate animals I spose.
