How definite is a trip to the Galapagos? I've seen it mentioned, here, but I haven't been able to tell whether it was just in the talking or in the planning stages. Mrs Beady & I would really like to go, but we're probably talking about a home equity loan, and need as much advance notice as we can get.

Well, I just returned from there... (I'm headed back to Kabul today...) and one word... WOW.

I can't WAIT to go back, and my brief 4 day excursion there was merely a teaser. One could easily spend 3 - 4 weeks in the Galapagos and still not see it all.

I'm going to send a few ideas to Jeff by PM based on our trip, but...

WOW.

Can't wait.

Everything is still tentative.

However, Celebrity is sending people to the JREF on March 1. We'll know more then.

Dates look like end of July 2008.

10 days.

You fly to Quito, Ecuador, and everything is included from there. Even booze on the ship.

Pricing is still up in the air. My goal is to keep it as close to $6000pp as possible.

For a sneak peek.. FIXED LINK

I am already preparing to make and sell Cosmic Ray Shielding Hats to pay for the trip. (I am convinced from surfing the Net that this is a genuine "emerging market".)

Gah. Pay off the student loans, or cruise the Galaps (as I call them)? I've never had the slightest interest in going on a cruise until this. I hate you, Jeff.

I'd LOVE to go on this trip. I've always wanted to go there. I'd better start saving my pennies now.

Gah, I'm saving up to buy some property and get out of the nasty rental market in New Haven, so I don't see any way I could afford this, despite having wanted to go there for as long as I can remember.

Unless the cruise needs to hire an astronomer to point out those luscious southern constellations? (I'll drive 3000 miles in a diaper to kidnap Phil Plait, if that would help). Oh, I can do astrology, too... I can figure out the most auspicious time to set sail and make natal charts for everyone on the cruise...

:)

I can do this, I am going to do this, and I have the money in the bank already (single + 25 years in the Government + 4 years working in the Middle East helps) :p .

The three places in the World I wanted to see was England, Africa, and China. Been to England several times and Kenya/Tanzania in 2002, I was going to do China in 2008...but it'll have to wait a couple more years.

Wow--I would go into pretty much any amount of debt to witness that.
