Sven Rygh ( he bends spoons )

I am new here.
I would like to suggest Sven Rygh for Million Dollar Challenge. He bends spoons. Google this to find out more:

"Sven Rygh" video

The first google result is a page that contains a link to a high quality video.
After you see that one, check the second google result.
The second google result is a YouTUBE video.

Then, go to his website

SvenRygh dot no

and locate other videos. (Website is in Norwegian language. Good luck!)

I expect your comments.

Welcome to the JREF Forum, Jan Evensen.

Have you proposed this to Sven Rygh? Spoonbending is Mr. Randi's bread and butter, if I may say so.

There is no reason for me to tell you more ... those videos will tell you everything you need to know ... even if you can not understand the language.

So? Any comments?

I've seen his vid before. He's a pretty good ratcheter.

His website lists him as Sven Rygh, Psychic Entertainer but I can't understand Norwegian, so don't know if he is claiming he uses paranormal means. But it's clear he's ratcheting the spoon in view.

why did you post a second thread about this?

As was pointed out in the first thread he doesn't claim that it is anything other than a trick

Spoons

I read it just now. Nothing new in those assumptions.

Assumption is that Sven bends his own spoon (trick spoon).

According to Fredrik Skavlan (show host), both spons were given to Sven before the show. Both spoons were identical.

If spoons are not his (Sven), why is the spoon bending?

Why so slowly?

You can see it moving. Any ideas?

How do you bend (slowly) a spoon that is not yours?

Jan

It's called ratcheting. If you search on Youtube you can find a clip of Randi performing this with a key and explaining the effect.

You are wrong, I don't think you understand Norwegian

He does not claim that it is a trick. He claims that he can bend any spoon given to him. But he does claim that it is natural. (He does not claim it to be supernatural), but he never claims it to be a trick or any kind of deception. Nor it looks like a trick.

Let us assume that it is a trick.

How would you explain it, if spoons were real stainless spoons given to him?

Let me change the question

Let's imagine you are going to meet him. You bring 2 spoons from your own kitchen.

You give him spoons, and he bends one.

He returns both spoons to you, and you can see it is your spoon.

What would be your explanation?

Maybe he's sooperdoopernatural?

..snip..
What would be your explanation?

That he's using exactly the same sleight of hand that Uri Geller uses, and that James Randi has duplicated many times before.

I watched two of the videos on that site, and both times I heard the word "mentalist" being used. I didn't understand any of the other words, but mentalist stuck out enough that, unless they have a different meaning for the word in Norway, I don't think that he's purporting to use anything but trickery to bend those spoons.

James Randi exposes Uri Geller and Peter Popoff

Are you referring to the video named:

James Randi exposes Uri Geller and Peter Popoff

If that is the explanation of what Sven Rygh is doing ... then it is an extremely poor explanation.

Watch the complete Sven Rygh video in order to understand why it is a very poor explanation.

Start at 03:40 or 03:46 and of course at 05:06 to get to the "spoon bending" schtick displayed by Mr. Randi using non-magic down-to-earth means.
I can recommend the whole video, though.

(Transcription intended to be taken with a sense of puerile humour.) "Keep stroking it here. You see the [rule 8] is becoming bigger. I "melt" the metal down, so, so, I want it to bend, I just say: Bend!, now wait a minute, wait a minute: KEEP STROKING YOUR "KEYS" MORE! [...] WANT IT TO START WORKING!")
(As a psychologist would assume: Does Mr. Geller project own shortcomings? Puerile humour? Right on the money? We can only guess.)

James Randi's explanation assumes that the spoon was bent before.

If that was what sven rygh did, then how to explain what Fredrik Skavlan did.

Fredrik Skavlan took the spoon that was bent, and tried to stretch it back.

If the spoon was "soft" close to braking point, Fredrik Skavlan would have no problems bending it.

Fredrik was not able to bring the spoon back into the start position.

James Randi's explanation can not be applied on what Sven did.

There must be some other explanation. What?

Ratcheting, Jan. Ratcheting does not require that the spoon be bent close to the breaking point. And if the host could not unbend a bent spoon (regardless of how it was bent), he needs to workout some.
