Why don't those who demand a 6 day creation, and biblical literalism more focused on the unmoving earth and the moving sun? Why has that scientific fact become largely accepted?

Time.

Biblical literalism means believing as much of the Bible is literally true as possible without being seen as a raving loonie by the majority of the population.

So, why is believing in 6 day creationism not views as a raving loonie while geocentrism is?

Time.

The main scientific challenge to strict biblical creationism is more recent than the challenge to heliocentrism. Give it 200 years, and Christians will be laughing about what their predecessors ever took Genesis literally.

I also think that the “directness” of the evidence is important, you can show people photographs of the solar system, you can’t show someone a photograph of “evolution”.

From the article that Level linked to...

Mr. Bridges also supplies a link to a document that describes scientists Carl Sagan and Albert Einstein as "Kabbalists" and laments "Hollywood's unrelenting role in flooding the movie theaters with explicit or implicit endorsement of evolutionism."

Huh? Did I miss something? I looked at that website. As far as bad page design, rambling incoherence, made up nonsense, and simple old fashioned lunacy are concerned, that site is a close second to Time Cube.

PT, I think this is a question better asked on discussion boards populated by biblical literalists. Few post here. Try the Southern Convention Baptists for a start.

If you are trolling for kurious kathy, you'll get an answer, but probably not a very satisfying one.

*Southern accent*

If you are going to talk about the nigras from the veranda of the plantation house, Colonel PT, you may find it hard to get a credible answer about their opinion, and condition, if you persist in conversing only with other plantation owners.

Care for another mint julep?

excerpt of the letter from Georgia to Texas Legislaure in Austin said:
"Indisputable evidence – long hidden but now available to everyone – demonstrates conclusively that so-called 'secular evolution science' is the Big Bang, 15-billion-year, alternate 'creation scenario' of the Pharisee Religion," writes Mr. Bridges, a Republican from Cleveland, Ga. He has argued against teaching of evolution in Georgia schools for several years.

He then refers to a Web site, www.fixedearth.com, that contains a model bill for state Legislatures to pass to attack instruction on evolution as an unconstitutional establishment of religion.
Twenty years ago, I was puzzled at a court case, IIRC in Georgia, that featured a person being characterized as part of a religion he didn't profess to. He was being called a secular humanist, but was not of the SH confession, as it were. I thought it was strange then, and I am a bit puzzled to see this regurgitated now. In this form, it looks like rather thinly veiled anti Semitism.

For members of my state's legislature to be entering this into their Congressional Record strikes me as a bit over the top, if not farcical.

OMFG: "Real Solutions for Troubled Islam"
If that be the case, then the Koran’s agreement with the Bible on this creation matter pits the Moslems, Christians--and those Jews who follow the Creation accounts in the Bible--against those who--knowingly or unknowingly--are following the Creation account in the mystic Kabbala (Cabala).

That Al Quran is held by some scholars to be completely derivative of the Bible seems to have escaped this genius.

A related thought - heliocentrism was well-established before the advent of Christian fundamentalism and its emphasis on biblical literalism. Evolution wasn't. Maybe the rise of biblical literalism operates as some kind of cut-off point on the timeline, and everything that was generally acknowledged beforehand got grandfathered in somehow.

That's how Mr Marshall died, Anna Nicoles rich husband. :D Not being able to handle those two unbelievable things before breakfast killed him. Halfway through handling one, his heart gave out.

Lucky sod.

LOL

The sad thing is, I'll never know if I would be up to the challenge.

Ahh well.....

On a serious note, and to dispel the thought that I am a totally heartless person, Her death, like anyone else's saddens me. Other than for the eye candy aspect, I was never a fan, but I get no pleasure from anyones death. Even those that deserve it.

Here's the gem from that story... http://www.fixedearth.com/

Praise Jebus!

I can't stomach more than one page in a sitting.

-The earth moves only thru abstract, abstruse, and esoteric mathematics invented to make it move.

-Relativity is pure claptrap and there isn't a person reading this who can't know that fact.

-In the beginning, the Bible makes clear, the earth was the center of our "solar" system, with no sun for it to go around until the 4th day of creation (Gen.1:14-19). At the End we read of a New Earth replacing in the same location this old one (Rev. 20:11; 21:1,2). This New Earth which occupies the same location in the cosmos as the old one which has "fled away" is the place where God the Father and Jesus will dwell with the redeemed forever (Rev. 21:3).
