"Evolution isn't science"

Amen.

With all this Sylvia Chopra ID sCAM loving madness, I feel we're headed right for another middle ages. We've plateaued to a bunch of fiends that want to fight for the middle ages. Let's not cure diabetes, let's worship everlasting imaginary hoo haaa. Let's not get some alternative fuel source, let's war with badasses who use current fuel sources to fund their own forms of madness. Let's not use vaccines, let's eat placenta!

Whoo yaaa. Gotta love trying to talk sense and getting ostracized for being "close minded". @##&$#!!!

If we are lucky(?) the world will end up like that decribed by CM Kornbulth in The Marching Morons. (Explanation left as an exercise to the reader.)

Harumph. The elite use a supposed "real psychic" to mess with Barlow's head. Then Barlow is tossed out with the other morons. How depressing :p

And hey, if stupid stuff is really keeping the majority "in their place", do you really want to mess with what seems to be working?

Maybe our species can only survive with stupidity keeping the most of us down. Maybe we don't want to see a world of scientifically minded people, since science can be used just as much to destroy ourselves even faster. I mean, can you imagine what bin bin laden would do with nuclear bombs and the ability to send them to our doorsteps? Or would he be smart enough then to not care what anybody else's beliefs and economics are like?

I dunno.

argh.

I see you are frustrated
But I cannot bang my head on the desk for you
You must bang your head yourself
But I can bang it together with you
I can bang my head with you...

Note: This is a parody/translation of a Norwegian song that is basically saying "I can't do it instead of you, but I can at least support you and help you do it yourself".

Ah, not unlike, "I can't puke for you, but I'll hold your head while you pray to the porcelain god."

Metullus,
If you're going to quote Vomtare, at least attribute properly. I fixed it for you.
I humbly submit to your correction and pray that my fellows will see fit to forgive my transgression...

What, you thought the Romans were after the Christians for their religion? The Romans were some of the most tolerant people around, but starting a revolution was something they didn't put up with for a heartbeat, and if you think that's not what those guys were doing, you better go read the New Testament again. And note this, and note it well: they freakin WON. Took 'em a while, and quite a few got fed to the lions- but when they were done, they were running things. They took Rome DOWN. And then we had the Dark Ages, which lasted a thousand years. Never, ever, ever forget it. Because IT CAN HAPPEN AGAIN- IN FACT, IT MIGHT BE HAPPENING RIGHT FREAKING NOW. So pay attention.

This is the biggest problem I have when people say that the Bible is the same as to was when it was first writen

The Bible was burnt and it's people killed en mass for about 300 years and then christainity became a state religion.

You can't tell me that the politicans of the time, didn't go through and say to themselves, hhhmmm that passage needs to go , and this here - might cause trouble - we'll get rid of that one.

I know that the King James is meant to be from orignal sources, but how can you have a time in history when the bible was actively being destroyed and expect people to believe that it would remain untouched

I guess God did it

Quite similar, but with a small difference. It's more like you'd find a bucket and puke in it while your fellow puker's paying his original respects to the porcelaine god. ;)

So, we can bang our heads on the desks together with Schneider, or we can provide him with some paracetamol and band-aid (assuming he's banged hard enough to bleed) afterwards. Either way would be effective in showing our sympathies with him. ;)

The image of a room full of desks with computers on them, each with its own head-banging user, invites comparison with the music video for "Another Brick In the Wall." I don't know if that's entirely the image I wished to conjure. /humor

Thanks again for the evidence of solidarity.

Didn't King James edit a lot of the Bible for personal reasons?

I.E., made the part about killing poisoners to be about killing witches, for personal political motivation?

Yes there are a few deletions and a few intended mistranslations such as the Holy Spirit being male and deletions concerning what happenned with Jesus and the naked fellow with the towel. The church system made it like that.

But the essense is there, as the Lord ensured that, as the bible is hardly the end all be all but only enough words to get us a strong connection so we can go further.... only the religionists limit all truths to the bible, and they twisted its content somewhat and definitely twisted it by their interpretations of it..

Got to fly...

King James is based on a particular Greek Bible (the Textus Receptus) and a particular Hebrew Bible (the Masoretic text). King James is actually a pretty good translation of those two texts, but there are lots of reasons to take various other texts seriously. Most modern Bible translations (including translations used by literalist fundamentalist sects) pick and choose from the various sources out there to come up with a translation to fit their own theology.

The sources are old pieces of parchment which were copied from a piece of parchment no longer in existence and translations which were translated from a piece of parchment no longer in existence. From these scholars try to reconstruct the original text and figure out what was changed or added, when it was changed, and whether it was an outright editing, a "typo," or an addition originally meant as commentary.

I bet when Jesus woke up in the morning with the headache, he wanted that passage deleted too.

Then you have NO way of knowing which parts were modified and which parts are "intact". No way of knowing the truth from the lies, omissions, contradictions and interpolations.
