That might absolve people in the past...but now? Shouldn't free people across the globe examine their fantastical beliefs in the warm light of evidence?
A more typical one is a local Hopi practice that gets me torqued off. Some of their worship practices require young eagle feathers. Unfortunately the feathers are usually in use by eaglets. They have the religious right to go onto federal land and kill a certain amount of eagle chicks every year. I am not very sympathetic to this, which is probably rather un-pc since we are all supposed to love Native American religious ritual. I recall a story of a ranger a couple years ago camping out near an eagle nest she was protecting from 'being gathered'.
Have you actually checked out the website? If I remember the founder was a nut but he has died and would probably be turning in his grave if he was alive today and seen what his dream has become. The problem happens beacause people think the Bible is true. A lot of people are still living in the past. Some people still believe the earth is flat, because it says so in the Bible.

These people are still living in the past
Trees never move of their own accord.

Do you know of any people who believe the Earth is flat because of the Bible as I am not aware of any.I am at work and did a quick google. If I had spent a bit more time I would have used a better URL. Here are the main quotes
Chronicles 16:30: “He has fixed the earth firm, immovable.”
Psalm 93:1: “Thou hast fixed the earth immovable and firm ...”
Psalm 96:10: “He has fixed the earth firm, immovable ...”
Psalm 104:5: “Thou didst fix the earth on its foundation so that it never can be shaken.”
Isaiah 45:18: “...who made the earth and fashioned it, and himself fixed it fast...”
The point that I was trying to make though is that people want to create a belief system based around a book (that they claim is never wrong) instead of proper science

Ok, I will let you off this time! Creationism, of course, works well as an example.Mr Clingford - at the risk of being accused of avoiding the question....
I was asked a question (pharasing now)...people are smatter now then in past so why do they still believe in the bible. To which I was responding that some people see the bible is a factural piece of evidence instead of being just a book
Perhaps I could have used a better example, but the point remains the same
Ok, I will let you off this time! Creationism, of course, works well as an example.
I'm not sure what you mean by smarter but certainly people are much more knowledgeable now..
The Bible is a factual piece of evidence, just not scientific evidence.

Let me get this straight: you are praying to wood, not praying to sport wood? There is a blue pill for the latter . . .You've convinced me. I kneel and tremble at the Church of the Perambulating Redwood.
Sorry mate, but I have to go with the Jesus sory, too.
Sorry - is this a joke. The Bible is at best a history. In many places it is neither factual or scientific. To say everything in the Bible is correct and without fault is incorrect
No one here (if KK stays away) is saying everything in the Bible is correct and without fault.Sorry and with no intent of offense (but it must be stated), the Bible is not evidence of anything except the existence of the Bible. I have no question that the Bible exists nor do I question that its' existence in one form or another is historically validated. It is no more evidence of something than an individual flower in a large field - except evidence of its' own existence.
No one here (if KK stays away) is saying everything in the Bible is correct and without fault..
The Bible is historical evidence, which is not to say that everything in the Bible is historically true, far from it. For instance, the NT is evidence that a group of Jews thought the Messiah had come, becoming known as Christians. Their letters and other writings tell us what they and others thought and did.
fuelair, you appear to be suggesting that the Bible does not intersect with any other historical evidence but that is mistaken. If I am ignorant here I would like to know where I have gone wrong.
Well, I am a freak but not a literalist fundamentalist one!Phew. I thought there for a moment that I was talking to another one of Jesus_freaks friends![]()
I like the sentiment behind the idea that a Bible quote is a beginning to a discussion not an end.I will agree with you on this one. I just take issue with people who insist that they are correct "because it is in the Bible" without providing any other evidence.

Of course I consider some wise words to be found in the Bible as well as a message of hope (on a good day).
Hey there! So you're not an atheist, Mr. Christianity-Seems-More-Plasuble-Than-Walking-Trees?
How about a bible printed on redwood scrolls?Although it's not technically a tree, but the banana "tree" can "walk" up to 3 meters in it's lifetime. And most plants are capable of some movement (bending towards the light etc), even if they cannot uproot themselves.
Now if I where a devout Redwoodist I would take this as absolute proof, and certainly more valid than anything the Christians have.
Hey there!
Every time I see your avatar I get a huge laugh. Can untwist hippo undies but not his own, eh? You a little sore at the couple of utter destructions you've eaten lately? Yet you're still looking for more?
You made the mistake of not reading all my post (again), [again], again.
Here, let me remind you about the last couple of debates we've had, little boy:
