To answer the original question -- what's wrong with Jason Bermas? -- I think he's a product of that latter-day school of thought, which may or may not have originated with the proliferation of the internet, that facts, logic, and reason are irrelevant. What's really important is winning the debate. And even the meaning of those words, "winning" and "debate," have been perverted. They no longer imply presenting your arguments for the consideration of impartial observers. Instead, the goal is to be as loud, persistent, obnoxious, and insulting as possible, so you can impress your like-minded friends. Promoting truth and changing minds are irrelevant; it's all about looking cool.
Unfortunately for Jason, he's trying to apply the same "rules of engagement" that prevail in forums such as LC to the real world, with absolutely disastrous results. Only he's too immature and intellectually limited to see it as disastrous. (I suspect Avery does, however, judging from that perpetual look of indigestion he wears these days.)
