Do Atheists like the idea of existence after death?

I neither like nor dislike the idea....The question doesn't compute. I don't believe there is an "existence" after life. Death means "ceases to exist"...life after death is an oxymoron.

Righto. You get shot. The doc pronounces you dead. Instead of nothingness, you wake up somewhere cool.

Does that idea give you a kick?

Perhaps better than waking up somewhere hot! :D

I like the idea of being able to hang around, watching what goes on in the world. Being able to float into the Super Bowl without a ticket, unseen... that would be cool. Seeing how my son does after I'm gone.

Unfortunately I don't see the slightest chance that that's the way the world works.

Well, what kind of existence are we talking about here? I still have fond memories of my grandmother. I carry some of her DNA around with me. I have some of her mannerisms.

That's a sort of a continued existence after her death.

Yeah, pretty much what the title of this thread said.

Sure I'd like to continue to exist after I die, but it's just a concept to keep the simple-minded happy and under the control of religion. "Your life may suck, but it's a small price to pay for eternal happiness." "Grandpa's in a better place and we'll be with him again if we live a good life."

Who wants to live forever? I do. Seems to me death is pretty much the end of the world as _I_ know it though.

Is it a pleasing idea? That depends. If it's something pleasant then certainly I find it appealing. I also like the idea of dragons, Hobbits, flying like Superman, defeating my enemies with the Force and being enslaved by a 20 something Bettie Page look-alike with a bull-whip.

I think it's worth pointing out that we can't actually experience our own non-existence. Personally, we can reach the threshold of death, but in a sense, life is all we have. So I see no reason to fear the lack of an afterlife. I fear death only in the sense that I want to experience as much of life as I can, but I find nothing to fear after death so I want to make the most of this short life I have.

There is life after death. My grandmother died in December of 2000 and I'm still alive.

Other than that, there are just bed time stories.
