John Edward on Glenn Beck

I am watching this right now. 2 idiots on television.

Beck brings up Houdini going around debunking psychics. Beck knows very little. Edward pretended to know less.

Beck brings up the JR Challenge. Edward jokes that he doesn't need to prove himself to someone who's name begins with an adjective.

Beck tries to corner Edward with what "skeptics" use as possible explainations which included bugging someone's house or hotel room or googling. No mention of cold reading.

Here is the real interesting part. "Frank" call in the show. Edward says the name is fake. It isn't. Someone else goes by it but their name is fake. Strike #2 Guesses the guy is Catholic. I thought it was obvious the guy was Irish. Than guesses correctly the guy has 3 kids. He says 2 of them are the same and 1 is different. Frank pauses trying to understand and Edward says 2 are of 1 gender and 1 of the other. No kidding! Than insists that someone is dying of cancer. Strike 3! Than someone died of cancer. Strike 4! He insists someone has cancer and should get checked out. Than insists something is coming up with reguards to Aries. Strike 5 & 6 come from this. Than he insists someone from law enforcement related to Frank has died. Strike 7, 8 & 9. Cut to commercial break!

I love how he explained his insistance that a law enforcement officer related to the caller passed away. He said once he had a woman. He believed her ex husband had died. She insisted he was wrong. Than she got a call in his office that he died while she was there.

If I remember right, he's used all of these guesses before. If it had gone according to plan, I'm sure he would have followed up the guess about cancer with "this person had it twice?"

This may have been covered elsewhere on these forums before I joined, but when I think of JE, or Sylvia, or any of the other big name psychics and mediums out there, I wonder if their families/spouses really believe they can do what they profess, or if they know it is a scam and just keep quiet about it. In JE's first book, he talks about meeting his wife and how before they were married she would tell him to keep the spirits over at his house and not have them go over to hers because it made her nervous. Does she really believe this stuff? I just have to wonder.

I think you're right. Edward's wife probably believed it all at first, then later she had to know on some level that he was scamming. But in order to love him and keep their family together and happy, she probably is indulging in self-delusion. I don't envy her position. It must not be an easy thing to do, wealth or not. At least I hope it's not.
And Edward HAS to know about Houdini. Playing dumb just makes him look bad, I think. Too bad he doesn't realize it.

I don't necessarily think she is pretending so that she can love him. She benefits from the money her husband makes. If she comes out and says Edward is a fraud, that is no more money for both of them. In fact if she plays along, it increases the beleivability and money. So she becomes apart of the scam.

In mentalism there are 2 person acts. One person is the mentalist and the other person sort of MC's the event. In some cases the other partner is secret and gather info from the audience and relays that info to the performer. I would not put it past Edward that his wife collects info at live events by sitting in the audience overhearing stuff before the show and during and relying that info to her husband ala Peter Popov

Has JE been on Beck's more than once? I caught him on Beck while visiting Canada last month. I don't know which of those two I loathe more. Beck's a dribbling simp, I love seeing Jon Stewart skewer him. (Anyone catch him asking the muslim senator to prove to him he's not working with the terrorists?).

But holy crap was Edward pathetic. He thinks he's so slick. He had Beck eating out of his hands, it was hilarious. I seem to recall Edward encouraging Beck that he too possessed the same ability and Beck being like, 'nooo... well, actually I always knew that.'

To my everlasting joy before I came back to Japan I was able to catch the best episode of South Park I've ever seen where they tore Edward apart. It was pure heaven, every second.

I know this current episode has aired several times. I don't know whe it originally aired but it seemed like the first time Edward and Beck met. Beck kept calling him Edwards instead of Edward.

I see that CNN Headline News is rerunning this show again at this moment. Never mind that all the other news stations are carrying the live broadcast of the funeral of former President Ford.
