I think it will take a few years for this conspiracy to wither away. My theory is that conspiracy theories find their greatest support among young people who believe they are the first to witness cataclysmic events and who lack the experience needed to put things into the proper historical perspective. In a few years, there will be many young people out on the internet too young to remember 9/11, so their conspiracy theories will focus on some future event.
It's really depressing comparing today's young people to the "greatest generation" of WWII. Back then, the overwhelming majority of young people responded with "what can I do to help?", whereas today it's more like, "how can I stir up trouble, while drawing attention to myself?" Maybe they'll be remembered as the "crappiest generation".
