I've been trying to cure myself of depression for a while now. If it weren't so damn debilitating, I would probably have given a little more time to more controlled experiments. As it is, however, I've blown through five different medications and there has been little improvement.

Could someone who is more knowledgable about psychiatry please tell me whether this looks to have any validity? I would prefer not to spend money on trumped-up placebo effect, and i sure as hell don't want someone perscribing pharmaceuticals without knowing what they're doing.

Thanks in advance,

Just quick info: you may have to go through multiple drugs in varying combinations and dosages to find a/the specific combination that give you the most relief with least side effects. Problem is we are dealing with body chemistry which is essentially unique and must be played with carefully. Knowing what they are doing is not the same as magically hitting the perfect combo for you on the first -or 20th attempt. Wish the news could be better, but we are dealing with brains here (and among other problems the need to cross the blood/brain barrier for effectiveness.)

Exactly. The neurotherapy clinic's claim is that their methodology will arrive at an effective combination of medications faster than the directed trial and error of typical psychiatrists.

I had a sinus infection recently that caused the same problems as depression. No energy, no motivation, memory problems, etc. I didn't have any of the pain that a sinus infection normally comes with, so I didn't realize I had it. I also have problems with depression this time of year, so I assumed it was that, but the meds that normally helped did not seem to be working. A week of antibiotics cleared up the infection, and now the meds are doing their thing again.

I guess my point in posting this is even if you have had problems with depression in the past, your current symptoms may be caused by something far easier to fix or you may have something that is masking the success of the drugs you've tried. I assume you have seen a doctor recently?
