My Dixie Chicks Mindless Rant

Not at all. To me, criticising the President on foreign soil, no matter who the Pres. is at the time, is insulting to the country. I don't care what any American says on American soil because that is their right (these days a sorely abused one but their right nonetheless).

On foreign soil, you should show respect to your country and your countrymen. Simple.

People can do what they want. As posted above, I feel people should show respect for their country and their countrymen.

Sometimes free speech goes too far. (That oughta rile some feathers...)
Which is it? Is it their right or not? If you believe it should be legal and you simply disagree with it, that's fine, you certainly have the right to your opinion. However, if you believe that US citizens should not have a legal right to free speech when travelling abroad, we'll be having a much different discussion.

If you are referring to me, I never said treason. I said disrespectful.

If you're not referring to me, carry on.

As you didn't say treason...

What does being out of the country have to do with the cost of bread?

Where in the world did you did you see that in my post? You did read it, right?

Of course they have that right as granted by the Constitution. As I have typed 3 or so times now, I just think it's DISRESPECTFUL and IN MY OPINION WRONG--- NOT ILLEGAL OR TREASONOUS.

Interjecting things that are not there looking for an argument is goofy, bob.

READ!!! For all that is anything, READ!

Original post:

1. Don't air your dirty laundry on your neighbours porch.

2. Insulting your own country on foreign soil? No. Against the rules (for me anyway).

Let me repeat: Against the rules (for me anyway).

Is there another language that would make it clearer to you?

I was hoping for some reasoning. Do you think it's more damaging?

I'm not, you stated:

Which I interpreted as you have the right to say what you want on American soil but not if you leave the country. I'm not trying to put words in your mouth. I'm simply trying to undestand what you mean.

Another question however, what difference does it make where they make the statement? What if they were to be interviewed on CNN and stated the same thing? Their statement is still broadcast around the world, they get their very own Youtube clip and all. Why does it matter that they're in England as opposed to the US?

But when you get on with your neighbor, regularly do your laundry together, and are currently using their washing machine, I think it's a different matter.

Maybe somebody said this, I read most of what was posted but not all, but here's my opinion:

Don't air your dirty laundry on your neighbours porch.

Free speech? Sure.

Insulting your own country on foreign soil? No. Against the rules (for me anyway).

Say what you want when you are here but out of your country you should show respect for it.

And honestly, I never liked the Dixie Chicks anyway.
Sounds like a resonable opinion to me. This is what's cool about free speech. We get to have our opinions and share them. :) Your opinion doesn't infringe on the rights of the chicks.

ETA: to change Dicks to Chicks. Freud is turning over in his grave right now.

Use their laundry machine all you want, but when you and the old lady get in a spat, do it in your own living room. Don't go to your neighbors house and fight in their living room, ya know?

Thanks, but I really did mean to say Chixie Dicks... from an old stand-up routine I heard a long time ago... Guy says they should make country group consisting of 3 men and call them the Chixie Dicks. I nearly fell over laughing... I've called them that ever since.

What evidence do you have to support your opinion that it is wrong?

I hate to be so pushy, but I'd really like to know.

What evidence do you have to support your opinion that it is wrong?

It's what I believe, hence the word "opinion". How do I provide evidence for that particular opinion other than a full life story and psychological profile?

You should be a bartender, you mix one mean metaphor. :p

It's what I believe, hence the word "opinion".

Opinions typically have a basis in fact or reason.

How do I provide evidence for that particular opinion other than a full life story and psychological profile?

So you concede that your opinion is without fact. Good, those us of who support free speech everywhere in the world can dismiss it as superstition.

Sorry, bob, had a bit of work to do for a sec.

I wouldn't have cared a bit if it went around the world (as of course it was bound to) as long as it was said on American soil.

We can't stop the media, it's global today. It's just a matter of respect for your country or countrymen.

I once dated a British girl. She asked me if we moved to England and were attacked by the US who I would fight for. She used to ask bizarre questions like that all the time, but that's another story.

Anyway, I instantly answered England. Why? Because if we moved there, then that would be my home. And that is where my allegiance would lie... to my home. And you simply do not disrespect your home.

Not a great analogy, but close. So it goes to the laundry on the porch analogy. You hate your wife? Fine. But don't head to your neighbors front lawn and proclaim it to the world. Have the courage and respect to do it from your own lawn.

Really?

If it is your opinion that blonds are more attractive, what fact or reason is that based on?

The fact that I get a stiffy when they're around, speaking hypothetically of course. :)

But this is a red herring, opinions like personal tastes are very different from political opinions.
