Jesus Camp: the movie

Bring on the chocolate....Uh, never mind. ;)

Chocolate Jesus by Tom Waits

Don't go to church on sunday
Don't get on my knees to pray
Don't memorize the books of the Bible
I got my own special way
But I know Jesus loves me
Maybe just a little bit more

I fall on my knees every sunday
At Zerelda Lee's candy store

Well it's got to be a chocolate Jesus
Make me feel good inside
Got to be a chocolate Jesus
Keep me satisfied

Well I don't want no Abba Zabba
Don't want no Almond Joy
There ain't nothing better
Suitable for this boy
Well it's the only thing
That can pick me up
Better than a cup of gold
See only a chocolate Jesus
Can satisfy my soul

(solo)
When the weather gets rough
And its whiskey in the shade
It's best to wrap your savior
Up in cellophane
He flows like the big muddy
But that's ok
Pour him over ice cream
For a nice parfait

Well it's got to be a chocolate Jesus
Good enough for me
Got to be a chocolate jesus
Good enough for me

Well it's got to be a chocolate Jesus
Make me feel good inside
Got to be a chocolate Jesus
Keep me satisfied

There's nothing scary about speaking in tongues, talking about how jesus loves a person, handing out bible tracts, etc. It's a way for these ordinary folks to feel special, without the technocratic competency hierarchies the rest of us nontransparently use to bolster our feelings of self-worth.

My only problem is that it's attached to some very non-utilitarian behavior.

I think there should be accessible to these folks counterhierarchies to technocratic elites other than ones that involve voting against stuff like stem cell research or legal abortion. That's it. Going beyond that is just sneering at the less intelligent, or the less hierarchically advantaged.

Then again, it could just be Jesus Christ, "Think not that I am come to send peace on earth; I come not to send peace, but a sword." Matthew 10:34
"And we shall answer with the machine weapon and the FAE and upon thee our cluster bombs will scatter thy parts and appurtenances. Yay, unto death shalt they be scattered." Someone Else.

I see them talk about things like battle and soldiers, but do you ever see them undergo any actual training? Do these groups teach the kids how to make bombs and handle weapons? Or is it all talk and no show? Because battle is starting to look more like a metaphor for loud and obnoxious behavior than actual fighting.

Luckily, I live near NYC. So, even if the film gets a really limited release, I'm sure I'll still have the opportunity to see it.

I'm going to see Texas Chainsaw Massacre tonight, but I'm sure this film is going to be infinitely more scary.

Fundamentalists, no matter what their creed, are terrifying.

Jesus Camp is playing in NYC at the big AMC Times Square movie theatre. I saw it last weekend: it's interesting.

depressing initially, but I would still like to see it and see if it can make me despise religion any more then I already do.

I think they're talking more about a "Good vs EVIL!" battle. Where they are .... commanders? in the chess game between god and satan.

It seems a bit odd to claim that you are special and not just a manipulated pawn, if you want to claim that that is real.

But then, the whole concept of seriously believing in literal, actual demons and satanic involvement in the world makes me want to hide. :boggled: :boxedin:

It's sort of like the whole "gay/jew/liberal/whatever/whatever CONSPIRACY!!!!". Why the hell do I never get the memos?:mad:

Hmmm

It was quite disturbing.

There’s also a transcript (very short) available on MSNBC when Scarborough Country aired the clip.

Not much different from the Muslim textbooks though.

The history of organized religion in seven words: My god can beat up your god.

Only gay Jewish liberals get the memos. If you're only one or two of those, you're just a pawn of the conspirators.
