Two battery powered clocks stopping at the same time

You guys are just conjuring up such complicated speculations. Okra's Razor suggests it must be demons. They are slimy little devils.

Actually, based upon the presented information, I'm led to conclude that it was an EMP gun, shot at the house during a dry lightning storm with weak batteries in the clocks and demons blowing cold air on them. it's the only possible explanation.

Now, who organized it? I'm putting my money on the reverse vampires, who, we all know, is in league with the saucer people.

Oh wait, wrong forum...:p

So, this person dreams about clocks that have stopped. I have weirder dreams than that.

Or, the batteries could be a back up for a power outage, as it is unlikely the owner ever changes the batteries they are flat, with a power outage they stop and start together, and will continue to do so until the owner replaces the flat batteries.

Or his teenage daughter need the batteries for her walkman, swapped them without telling.

Different night, different temperature

If this idea is true, the clocks should stop again tonight.

Maybe a cold front swept through the night after warm days and the heating system was not yet activated. The next day, the heating system may have been switched on, keeping the clock batteries warm the next night so they won't stop again.

Remember too, this is a freak occurance and even if explainable with common physics, may not repeat 24 hours later under even slightly different conditions.

Your friend should put fresh batteries in her clocks. Lithium types, while expensive, resist demons well.

It's True :) *

Thanks guys, I think she's happier now.

More detail - analog clocks, claims there was no lightning (though asleep), lives somewhere in Australia

Strike all of those ideas. I think the clocked stopped becuase her toilet water drains in the wrong direction.:D

On another forum a correspondent reports

"Woke up this morning and saw our bedroom alarm clock had stopped at 4.40 so I went into the kitchen to get a new battery and the kitchen clock had stopped at the exact same time.

Neither of them needed their batteries changing in the end, they're both keeping perfect time now."

This has spooked her a bit, so anyone have any ideas about what would cause this to happen? My knowledge of electricity runs to changing a plug.

Thanks

Same make/model?

I haven't seen an analog clock that was mains-powered in a very long time, so I vote with the low-battery/ cooler temperature theorists.

Some years ago, when my boys were still teenagers, they each had a clock that was permanently set to 4:20. I was way too old to understand the significance.:relieved:

I'd be checking other time pieces in the vicinity, including watches etc, also the neighbours.

Another theory re. meditation

I'd be checking other time pieces in the vicinity, including watches etc, also the neighbours.

Seems to me that it's quite likely a group of ten people were doing transcendental meditation at 4:40 in the house next door and were able to see the clocks in her house through the windows before she did, thus stopping them (along with light). See the challenge thread by Speed of Light to get this reference.

It's woo :)
