Jesus Camp: the movie

That's scary. at which point are bombs strapped onto these kids?

give these kids 10-15 years and it could be really scary.

There was a thread on this last spring sometime - I started it after I heard about it on the Rachel Maddow Show.

But, hang on, that's only a video, do you have proof that the film, the camps, or even the christians exist?

Which Jesus are they talking about? Jesus X, Jesus Y or a different Jesus altogether? Which god? Where is Palestine? Does it really exist? Is it just a figment of my imagination? Are you, saizai?

Cake and eating it...

My guess would be Aryan Jesus or jihad Jesus, clearly not drunk and bitter Jesus.

Well watching the video's there I learned kids need less sezure medication and more handgrenades

Oh, he'd be drunk and bitter after seeing them. :D I thought I remember something about teaching people to 'love thy neighbor' and all that.

Then again, it could just be Jesus Christ, "Think not that I am come to send peace on earth; I come not to send peace, but a sword." Matthew 10:34

I saw this a couple of weeks ago, and it is really creepy. Plenty of evolution and global warming denial, speaking in tongues, and liberal bashing, but the worst parts are the brainwashed little 9 year old girl going up to people to pass out gospel tracts. All in all a most unsettling experience.

I am gutted i can't see this movie. There doesn't appear to be any showings in the TN area. I guess i will have to wait until it gets to DVD

Wow, thanks for the heads up. I'll at least look at whatever video clips I can find online at home (I don't want to push the envelope here at work too much!) but I'd really like to see the whole film if I can find an opportunity.

They're worried this film makes them look scary? These people are extemely scary.

I saw this movie yesterday. A friend of mine, a soldier who has served two tours of combat duty, said it was the most frightening thing he has ever seen.

I think it will be seen as two completely different movies. It will be seen as scary by non charismatic evangelical christians, but as a powerfully affirming testament to the power of the holy spirit by those within the movement. Shots of 8-10-yr-old kids in tears, on their knees, trembling and speaking in tongues, is either evidence of brainwashing or evidence of the power of god.

The preacher who was the main focus, and the parents of the kids who were featured, were interviewed (not in the movie, but about the movie) and were mostly (but not completely) happy with the way they were portrayed, and with how the movement was portrayed. So... as frightening as this movie is to some, it is a testament to how different world views may be.

Well, if you ask an al queda operative, they will tell you that terrorist training camps are a good thing, too.

Actually, the preacher-woman first tries to scare us with the idea that [paraphrasing] "little muslim kids are being taught to be soldiers", and then instead of saying that we should be different, says we need to do the same thing with little xian kids.

Them = bad, us = good.

Standard fare.

No disagreement, there. In fact, my al queada reference was pretty much intentional in that regard.
