I woke up this morning to see a "developing" story. Muslims were offended!

It's not just old news now that I'm posting this, it's been old news for several years now.

Bruce Campbell would refer to this ridiculous behavior as a bunch of "Whiner Babies."

What I can't figure is why the American press even bothers anymore. These people are going to get pissed off about anything, anytime. They are un-pleasable and a testament to how FUBAR'd the religion of Islam really is.

I'd love to wake up one morning and read, "Muslim leaders extend a hand of grace and forgiveness to blah, blah, blah for their actions."

Or I'd love to wake up and read, "Muslim leaders demand apology from extremists who publically sully the Islamic faith."

Or "Muslim leaders deeply offended by mass killing in the name of Islam."

Or "Muslim leaders demand apology from Iranian president for hate speech against the Jews."

Who the hell are these "Muslim leaders?" And why after 10 years of toddler-esqe temper tantrums should we give a flying ****?

Because if someone wants to kill me for no good reason, I want the whole world to be reminded of it every day. You know, there are people who don't know that yet.
 
Well, I suppose the Pope acts more like he is eleven than ten, but he is prone to the same tantrums. Much less the fits that Jerry falwell has.
 
I think this paragraph from BBC's story summs up the entire situation best.

I wish I could share your optimism.

A quick scan appears to reveal that most of the quotes come from Americans or US based Muslims.

Of the others, I picked one at random:

Mufti Nizamuddin Shamzai. Your link led to the following quote from him on September 11.

"It is wrong to kill innocent people. It is also wrong to praise those who kill innocent people."

A noble sentiment ndeed. However, I am not sure if this is the same Mufti Nizamuddin Shamzai who was murdered in drive-by shooting in 2004. Reports following his death offer this description:

Shamzai belonged to the Deobandi School of Islamic thought, which has provided thousands of fighters to the Taliban in neighbouring Afghanistan. Several Pakistani Islamic militant groups considered him their spiritual leader.

His school, Jamiat-ul-Uloom-il-Islamaiyyah, also known as Banuri town, taught many students who went on to become important members of the Taliban regime in Kabul. Two senior clerics of the seminary were also murdered in 1998 and 1999.

Maybe you can tell me if this is the same person. If it is it reveals two things:

  • Words on their own don't mean a whole lot and one would need to check the bona fides of all those quoted in the link provided
  • The Mufti's preference for the use of violent force as a means of enforcing one's religious beliefs (a key theme of the Pope's speech)
