Gee, ya think this is real?

Let's see how many fraud bells we can set off:
 • "Dear Customer," What, you don't know my name?
 • " The information you provide us is all non-sensitive and anonymous..." Then how do you propose to put twenty bucks in my account, if you don't know who's answering your survey, hey?

 • "To Continue click on the link below:" You'd think a bank would take a little more care with their punctuation.
 • Oh, that link. Gee, it sure looks like it's from Elizabethton Federal Savings Bank (there is such a bank, and their website is elizfed.com). But if you mouseover the link in the email, your taskbar doesn't show http://www.elizfed.com/survey.html (what, not https? a bank that doesn't use a secure server?). It shows xttp://www.google.hu/url?sa=U&start=4&q=http://58.33.24.57:6666/www.elizfed.com/index.html Google.hu? What the hell is that? Hungary?
(Note: For some reason, the button to turn off the URL link isn't working. Don't click on any of these links, 'cuz if you do, you're dumber than a box of cat litter. Used cat litter.)

So waddaya all think? Should I do the survey? :D

Gee, I dunno. I got this one email from some Nigerian guy that everyone told me I shouldn't respond to. The laugh's on them though, I should be rolling in the dough once that money order he gave me clears. I didn't know they could make money orders for that much money, weird!

Don't fall for it, Beeps! You see, I personally know Ms Elizabeth Federal, and she has nothing to do with this phishing scam! She's been in the hospital, actually. She needs a kidney very badly. So please, forward this email to everybody you know, and tell them to forward it to everyone they know. Every time it gets sent, Bill Gates donates a dollar to a fund to find a suitable donor. So take a little time out of your day to save our beloved Elizabeth, widow of the late Doctor Kwele Abacha of Lagos, Nigeria.

Sounds like the decent thing to do! I'm gonna forward this email to everyone in the JREF forums!

By the way ---

"ING" was reportedly offering $25. for opening a new account with $250. but you must keep it on deposit for 10 days (BANK HOLD).

Also, they supposedly have a deal whereby you are given $10 for a referral to a friend or relative that uses your "code" when they open an online account.

However, although there are many references to this deal on the Internet (including on eBay), I cannot find any mention of it from the INGdirect website.

Is this an urban legend? I found nothing on Snopes (I've written them to ask).

I am not promoting this offer, I don't even know if it is real, and I'm not trying to obtain any referral cash.
This is merely in the realm of F.Y.I. ---

and it fits into the thread nicely.

I work for an software company. One of my colleagues was actually going to respond to a version of the email in the OP. :boggled:

That's a common strategy for banks to get new depositors. Once upon a time they gave away toasters, now sometimes they give a small amount of cash.

Yes, but do they give away small amounts of toasted cash?

Sorry, I'm writing a presentation and I really, really hate doing them. Anything for some relief.

Mmmm, toasted cash! That's a wonderful smell to wake up to on weekend mornings! :)

A little experementation shows that toasted cats are even tastier than toasted cash!

But then you have a hairball 20 minutes later.

And their tails keep jamming the pop-up mechanism on the toaster.

Now, a gently crisped dollar bill can be spread with clotted cream and jam, and won't require you to pick whiskers out from your teeth.

*beats head against wall* use a toaster oven. Or for the more health concious croud skin the cat first. The skin has lots of fat.
