A little more news manipulation for a_u_p's files.

When Um Ali Mihdi returned to her home in the southern Lebanese city of Bint Jbeil two days ago, she found a 1,000lb (450kg) Israeli bomb lying unexploded in her living room.

The shell is huge, bigger than the young boy pushed forward to stand reluctantly next to it while we get our cameras out and record the scene for posterity.
Whole story, including photo of a kid who apparently doesn't understand how wonderful martyrdom is, here.

BTW, any bets on who would have been blamed if the bomb had gone off while he was obliging the BBC photographers?

Mephisto:
"Ummmm, wild guess, but maybe the people who put it there?"

Nah, you are muddying the waters here...it`s the damn kid`s fault for picking it up. Someone said recently that cluster bombs were an "education" for them. Nice eh?
Nothing wrong with the arms trade.

Ahh, don't blame the little tyke. He's operating off of evolved instincts, and hasn't yet been educated as to the true metaphysical nature of reality vis-a-vis helping God murder His political enemies.

Demon,

What's yor opinion of Hezbollah being rearmed?

What about the BBC photographer who put the kid there?

Well, he wouldn't have had much of a photo had the ordnance not been there, right? So, who do you think is to blame, the Israelis for putting the shell there, the BBC photographer for posing the kid next to it, or the kid and his family, for being Lebanese in a Lebanese neighborhood during a fight between a terrorists organization and a military superpower?

If the BBC photographer posed the child near a sleeping bear and the bear woke and ate the child, who would be to blame? The BBC photographer for placing the child there? The bear for not choosing another place to sleep? Or the Israelis for not feeding the bear ahead of time, thus making sure it was hungry when a tasty child came along and interrupted its nap?

Nice try, Mycroft. You can't compare a chunk of lethal metal filled with explosives, made for the purpose of killing human beings and destroying buildings, with no mind of its own that must be LAUNCHED to a mammal.

Would you have laughed if I said, "Hezbollah isn't launching rockets aimed at killing Israeli citizens, they're lauching care bears that might exploit an opportunity. ;)

True, but if an armed bomb was found in your neighborhood would the press pose children next to it? Would the police let people crowd around it?

In war you drop bombs. Some of those bombs will destroy things you don't want to destroy in addition to the things you do. That's inevitable. Tragic, but inevitable.

Photography is different. In photography, it's not necessary to place children in dangerous situations. The camera works just fine either way. While a photo of a child next to a bomb may be more dramatic than a photo of just the bomb, it's a serious breach of ethics to place the child near the bomb just so you can get the more dramatic picture. It’s unethical for two reasons: 1) You’re not supposed to purposefully send children into dangerous situations and 2) You’re not supposed to stage news photographs.

Sure that's all true and the BBC photographer showed extremely bad judgement, but had the ordnance not been there to begin with he wouldn't have been allowed his lapse.

Besides, out of all the idiotic things that have been done to civilians on BOTH sides of this stupid conflict, THIS stands out as worthy of comment?

Funny how that's where the chain of blame always ends for you, demon, et al.

How about adding one more link in that chain: the Hezbollah terrorists who fomented the air strike that PUT THE BOMB THERE?

No, no, can't do that, can you? They're not jewish.

Rank apologism Mephisto, nothing more. The assessments of other posters here are accurate - you are in a state of cognitive decline. Soon, you may even forget how to use the quote button and become completely indistinguishable from demon.

It occurs to me that that very same ordanance was once in Israel, put there by Israelis. But somehow I doubt there are many earlier pictures of that bomb to be found with kids around it during its live in Israeli territory.

Just a curious observation.

You're one to be pointing fingers at apologists, eh?

And don't be ridiculous - the OP was about ISRAELI ORDNANCE. Who else would be to blame for it being in that particular location? If we were talking about an unexploded rocket in Tel Aviv, I would have blamed Hezbollah.

Your knee-jerk reaction to anything against Israel OR Bush gives you plenty of experience with apologists, doesn't it?

(edited to challenge) I'll go so far as to invite you to prove that I haven't had anything but empathy for innocent Lebanese, Palestinians OR Israelis.

(edited once again to spite)

"Soon, you may even forget how to use the quote button and become completely indistinguishable from demon."

Does that bother you then?

I don't think so. Mephisto knows the apostrophe is not the same as the French accent grave:
Sure that's all true...
demon would show that as "Sure that`s all true..."

And Mephisto to his credit, selects salient points from his links and posts just those points. demon, OTOH, is apparently enamored of the "Select All" button, figuring people have nothing better to do than read ten screens' worth of cache dump to get to whatever point they'd forgotten he was trying to make.

Why thank you for the compliment, Beeps. ;)
