The DRC winner of such noted awards as "lagest number of deaths the west didn't care about" and "best place to buy cobalt if you don't care about human rights or indeed humans" is haveing elections.

The result is somewhat hard to predict. Most of the candidates are guilty of an interesting selection of crimes and the only exception (Joseph Kabila) is only really there because of his fathers activities.

Still it is a multipartly election. We can but hope things start to improve.

I know its an old joke, but why is it that the more adjectives a country uses in their name to give the sense of freedom, the less freedom they actually have.

Congo -> Republic of Congo -> Democratic Republic of Congo
Little Freedom -> Less Freedom -> Run MFers!!!

To be fair Republic of the Congo was already taken. The DRC used to be know as Zaïre which was decidely non free.

Of course way back when King Leopold II of Belgium owned it (literaly he left it to the people of belgium in his will) it was know as the Congo Free State.

Yeah, yeah... you and your fair ways.

ETA: I would comment more on the situation, however your knowledge of the historical and current affairs of the DRC vastly outclasses my own. Therefore, I'd mainly be talking out of my posterior.
