The main factors that affected happiness were health provision, wealth and education, according to White who said his research had produced the "first world map of happiness."

Following behind Denmark came Switzerland, Austria, Iceland and the Bahamas.

At the bottom came the Democratic Republic of Congo, Zimbabwe and Burundi. The United States came in at 23rd, Britain was in 41st place, Germany 35th and France 62nd.

Okay people, this story was made for the JREF Politics forum. I want a minimum 10-page heated argument over this. There should be at the very least references to nationalized health care, gun control and government/religion co-mingling. Use of the sarcastic smiley is encouraged. Now's the time to use some of those creative insults you've been saving up. This has potential: let's pull together and make this the worse thread ever.

Let's skip all that crap and get straight to the dope (no pun intended).

What is the suicide rate?

Country Rate (per 100,000)
Finland 26.4
Denmark 20.4
Austria 20.4
France 19.8
Switzerland 19.6
Japan 15.1
Sweden 14.7
Germany 13.8
Norway 13
United States 11.8
Netherlands 9.6

Denmark, almost twice as crappy as the U.S of A. :)

Our Danish brethren are probably asleep right now, so I'll fill in: can you provide evidence that these suicides are the result of unhappiness?

More evidence: according to Mytravelguide.com, there are 392 amusement parks in the United States. With a population of 298,444,215, that's 761,337 people per amusement park. Denmark has a population of 5,450,661, and 14 amusement parks according to visitdenmark.com; that comes to 389,333 people per amusement park. Not only that, the world's oldest surviving amusement park is located in Denmark. Clearly Denmark is a happier place than the U.S.!

That's just because your coroners don't count it as suicide to have eaten at mcDonalds, ours do ;)

Happier? Or more in need of amusement as an anodyne against the national melancholy?

There's a reason why Hamlet wasn't set in Orlando Florida, y'know. :p

Shouldn't you be asleep?
I'm a composer, so I just sleep when I'm tired. And right now I'm actually composing the score for an upcoming American movie so you guys might get a little happier ;)
No wonder you guys are so grumpy and unhappy.
Aaaah, but that's only in the company of zionistic fanatics we act like that :D

er...I'm a White Anglo-saxon Agnostic with red-neck leanings from North Carolina. I only play a zionist on the internet.

However, were I forced to join a religion, it would be either Jewdism or that of a typical, oft-found simi-depressed dope-smoking composer from Denmark. :)

Denmark has the Star Flyer, the world's tallest carousel. What more could you ask for?

Donno. They appear to ask for their own death.

My agnostic god, man. Can you imagine what it is to live in a country that can only boast a 'star flyer' and the world's tallest carousel? I can understand the suicide rate.

You'll find the Map of World Happiness and the full list of countries and rankings here.

We're #53!

(At least we beat the French, but who doesn't?)

Heh. That was almost worthy of a doglaugh.

But lets not be hard on Denmark. They have their difficulties and we need to continue to be sensitive to their...erm...well, their difficulties.

Printing "LARGE" on the "PEE-WEE" rubbers we shipped them helped some, but we need to do more. Besides, I don't think they ever got a chance to roll them down far enough for the size stamp to be visible.

Just wondering... Does this suicide rating include suicide bombers? Shouldn't Iraq and Palestine be in that list?

Good observation.

It proves that living in Denmark sucks more than living in Zionist occupied territory in the Middle East.

That must really suck.

Austria is happy because they got rid of the "Governator". But that makes me unhappy. No wonder the USA scored so low. :)

Some good stuff here guys. You've worked in Zionism and the Middle East into the discussion. A few insults and a penis comparison along the way for spice. Let's keep up the pace.

Thomas: I imagine as a composer you can go through some lean times. What do you do when you need to go the hospital, or need some basic health care, but don't have the money? How do you manage to stay happy when you can't afford the basic health services you need?
