Now THIS is Free Speech!

What's funny about it is imagining the mexicans driving by and almost crashing the car as they point out the sign.

You have to expand your mind my dour friend.
So it's amusing because you can fantasize about it upsetting Mexicans?

Wow.

Having explained that, your advice that I should "expand my mind" did, I confess, get a giggle out of me.

But what really cracks me up is that I have managed to shift the terms of this debate so that you --- and apparently BPSCG too (two for one!) --- are telling me, in public, on these forums, that I have no sense of humor.

Don't you guys ever get sick of being wrong?

...the prosecution rests.
Once more, you demonstrate the superiority of innuendo over statements with factual content in cases where you are wrong.

And of clutching at straws over a lifejacket when you have no lifejacket.

I'm sorry. I'll be watching for you in the Top Ten List Challenge.

Jeeze, this thread is confirming a theory I'd had in the back of my mind for a while, not that my purpose in starting it was to get that confirmation: Lefties/liberals are often a surly, humorless lot.

Look, I don't agree with a lot of his signs. But I thought it was hilarious that he'd go and put his foaming-at-the-foul-mouth rants on public display in front of his restaurant. But the lefties here are looking first to see if they agree with his messages, and when they don't, start picking on his spelling.

Jeeze.

I guess the Unhinged Left is also the Angry, Humorless Left. I suppose Margaret Cho is y'all's patron saint. :p

Yes, the guy posting these signs is funny, but as Ralph Wiggum said "Not hah hah funny."

I suspect one of the reasons the so called "humourless lefties" in this thread don't find it all that amusing, is because this guy might very well be representative of many others who think the way he does.
If he was just one crazy nutbar it might be a different story. Instead, he's probably just one of very many intolerant nutbars.

So, yes, I do find it quite amusing. I laughed when I was reading them. But, part of me shuddered as well!

What would be really funny is if he had illegals doing the dishes on the cheap.
Who do you think is putting up the letters on the sign? (which might account for the spelling). :D

A lot of people have quite missed the point of BPSCG's linking to it in the first place. Read the thread title again. The guy is saying what he wants to say regardless of how it may affect his business, and in an area that is heavily dominated by democrats (all 4 of the state leglislators for North Versailles, PA are dems). Though I admit that there is a certain irony in several of his messages that he is no doubt oblivious to.

Yes, but in his OP BPSCG indicated that the signs are hilariously funny to the point that you shouldn't have any liquid in your mouth when reading them. To me, he was pointing out that purely based on the content the signs are hilarious. That's not really true. They aren't particularly clever, or witty. The only thing that makes them funny is that a guy would be ballsy enough to post such messages on a public display outside his restaurant. The story behind the signs is more funny than the signs themselves.

As for the whole supposed point of this thread, that a guy can display this kind of message freely. Well, that's great. More power to em. But, that's seperate from whether or not the signs are actually funny.

I haven't noticed even one "humourless lefty" in this thread say the guy shouldn't be able to display these signs.

That does not imply humor unles BPSCG specifically said it was funny later on. Saying something outrages causes a similar reaction with liquids as saying something funny.

Also when BPSCG does mention humour it's in different context.

emphasis mine. To make it even more clear, he things the action itself not the messages are funny.

Well, at least two guys get it, anyway.

Or maybe, you just have a lame sense of humor. This reminds me of being at church when the pastor makes a lame and unfunny joke and almost everyone in the joint laughs.

But I thought it was hilarious that he'd go and put his foaming-at-the-foul-mouth rants on public display in front of his restaurant.

I agree, in that sense it is funny. "Hey look what that dumb fu**ing douch-bag put on his sign, ha ha".

It's not that the rest of us don't get it; it's just that it isn't very funny. So some ignorant ass who can't be bothered to consult a dictionary is foisting his ill-informed xenophobia onto all passers-by. I find it more disheartening than hilarious.

"One Nation Under God that's the way it is and that's the way it should be if you don't like it tough sh.t"

Oh yeah, that's funny. That guy should do stand up. There's nothing funnier then a foaming at the mouth religious redneck shouting his opinion as loud as he can because he can't actually form a thought.

To be fair, there's nothing to indicate that person is from rural America, much less that the meaningless appelation of "redneck" applies. I know plenty of non-white urbanites with exactly the same sentiment, sadly enough.

North Versailles, PA is less than ten miles from downtown Pittsburgh.

Now that WAS Funny!

FWIW, when I see the term "Do not have any liquid in your mouth when you start reading these", I have come to expect something outrageous; either outrageously funny or simply jaw-dropping peculiar or maybe the best one-liners in existance.

Like I said, some grins there but I have to call BPSCG for False Advertising in his OP.
