More French riots

I try to care.... but I just can't. Does that make me bad?

16, split right 54, blue 22, ready , HIKE!

It should be fascinating to see why TF posted a link to LGF.

((( Yeah, we know that it's his favorite website! )))

Oh, I doubt that's his favorite website. As fascinating as I find political "commentary," there are a few other urls that for some reason appear on my browser's navigation bar more often...:o

I just thought that as Charles goes to a lot of time and effort preparing feed for his members he should get some credit. Its only fair that if LGF is to be mirrored here without comment that charles be credited for his news aggregation efforts.

But I don't want this to turn into an LGF thread...we should concentrate on discussing the points made and discussion topics raised in the OP concerning the article.

Oh, I see. You don't want to turn this into an LGF thread, which is why you posted a link to LGF. The OP cited Yahoo!. The article comes from Reuters. Funny, I also use Yahoo!, and the link to the article was available for me, as well. Let's belittle every AP and Reuters article that can be used to further any political agenda, since it will also invariably appear on websites with which we have a beef or two.

The OP contains a link without commentary. So what? I don't understand why you find that a problem. Perhaps the link speaks for itself. There is a clear thread title, after all. That can't be your real objection. It happens all over the forum, but here is when you choose to object to it?

You have a problem with Mycroft? Hash it out in a PM exchange. Start a thread in Flame Wars. Rent a room. Don't poision what might otherwise (or nevertheless) become an interesting discussion because you think Mycroft is grinding a political axe (Who isn't grinding a political axe in the Politics forum? That's a big part of why it exists).

I noticed this in the story, with references to the riots of a few months ago (amphasis mine):
The rioters, many of whom where of African or Arab in origin, complained of discrimination, high unemployment and lack of opportunities.
Reuters could have saved two words by replacing the highlighted ones with "Muslim." But I suppose if they had, it might have touched off more riots among adherents of the Religion of Setting Cars on Fire Peace.

fair enough....proceed with the interesting discussion.

You're deluded if you think frat boys are behind the car fire problems in France.

In the United States, college towns sometimes have riots when their team loses (or wins!) "the big game". Michigan State once had a huge impromptu bonfire where they put furniture, kegs, pushed cars into it, even an entire leftover WWII destroyer that was a museum was jammed in. The fire got so bad they had to tear up the road and repave it since it burned up the tar.

What's your point? What does this have to do with the constant car burnings in France?

Just so you know, this is a daily occurrence over there.

Sure, to the point there's hardly a car left on our roads these times ...

Anyway, this is nothing, wait until the soccer world cup starts ...

You're a little late for that, @sshat. I've never seen anyone poison the well of a strawman before, but you managed to pull it off with your usual sense of style.

The government has no right to prevent groups of youths gathering in towns. They need to look at the real issues like unemployment to solve the problem, simpl imposing a ban will not work.
