Saw the latest article by Sunsara Taylor today and...I...I'm both saddened, GREATLY saddened, that hatred, malice, ignorance, and infinite self-righteousness moves so many people. Did not Christ teach temperance? Turning the other cheek? Shall not the Greek inherit the Earth? Are not the cheesemakers blessed? Of course, I could go on interpreting Jesus's preaching for the sake of humour, which I'm sure he would have approved of. What I'm also certain, he would disapprove of the fascist propaganda being spewed . . . I... really don't know what to say. This is truly chilling. I have a very hard time understanding the mind set of fanatics. I have a hard time believing people like this exist because, fortunately, I don't come in contact with them.

I read this part of the article (in the second column):

There was a session when, after a great crescendo, the stadium was brought to silence. Luce instructed individuals to stand up when they felt the spirit and cry out, “I want the cross!” The voices of hundreds rose up over the course of 10 minutes.

I've been reading a series of historical novels about the Crusades, and all I could think of was how eerily these BattleCry rallies are like the rallies for Crusaders where medival folk would vow to "take the cross" and go to Palistine and kill Muslims. We all know how successful the Crusades were and how much corruption and brutality accompanied them.
I'm really getting more and more scared about the path that the U.S. is headed down.

As to this BattleCry nonsense, the term is "charismatic preaching" -- as opposed to the true spirituals of the Classical musicians (cf. e.g. the Negro Spirituals). I wonder how many of these Jesus Freak-type teenage "Christians" would respond if, presuming they could come down out of the brainwashing, they realised that the "thrilling feeling for Jesus" they were experiencing at these rallies, was no real different that that experienced by participants at a Satanic rock concert, or a voodoo ritual.

It's as if some people don't think GOD really knows what is happening. Hello? As a believer I kind of think that showing hate and intolerance is rather a no no. Dying for your faith is one thing. Killing for your faith - that is wrong. Period. You didn't see the apostles all gathering up arms and just getting some angelic army to kill off the Jews and Romans.

That's because killing is BAD. NOT GOOD.

Amazing how the early church managed to survive,and thrive, without killing. Only when Xians became well established was the old "Gods avenging sword" brought into the mix.

You know a lot of things FEEL good, but it isn't the spirit of Christ. When you eat chocolate it's GOOD, but it isn't Christ. When you get all worked up about something, you can pretend to yourself that it's the spirit of Christ.

Nuking Muslims, heck, I'm sure there is something in the bible about that....just have to read the fine print. My big print says it's a BAD IDEA. But hey, I'm not the Pope or anything.

Because a lot of it broke down to greed and petty squabbling about property. The high ideals (liberating the Holy Lands) were easily forgotten as the nobles got more concerned about land and power amongst themselves. Also, how about the sacking of Constantinople? How did that figure into the whole "liberating the Holy Lands" thing? Last I knew, Constantinople was not in the Holy Lands. And even so, we can see how brutal and unsuccessful the Crusades were.

I wonder how many of these Jesus Freak-type teenage "Christians" would respond if, presuming they could come down out of the brainwashing, they realised that the "thrilling feeling for Jesus" they were experiencing at these rallies, was no real different that that experienced by participants at a Satanic rock concert, or a voodoo ritual.

Good point. Chanting, rythmic music, dancing have been used by many societies to induce euphoria and "group-think."

Yes, I read it. It's written in a parody of the style of the Declaration of Independence and kindred documents. I recommend the authors of the "Teenage Bill of Rights" actually read those documents, and then learn how to construct proper paragraphs. Then, I might be able to find the "rights" which were supposedly enumerated therein. Perhaps you successfully found what "rights" we now possess courtesy of the estimable BattleCryTM writing team?

It's important I think to realize we not only need to learn to take God at His word, but to trust that He can use everything that has been a part of our journey in life to work for the good somehow. I'm certainly not proud of my past sins, but I have repented and learned a lot from what I went through.

And I'm not trying to sell anything. Faith is a free gift from God and I would just like to point people the way to the one who saves us.

I have been reading more and I recently did enjoy listening to Billy Grahams new book called the Journey. There are things he identifies in this book I wish I would have listened to 20 years ago. Anyways it's worth reading if anyone here is open to it!
