Well, not many anyway, and a suspicion that those I have are out of the cache.

A few days ago I noticed that I wasn't seeing many people's avatars, and that pictures posted in threads (including thumbnails) weren't appearing. I'm realising that this is happening on both my computers (home and office), though one is on broadband and the other on dial-up, and one is running Windows 98 and the other XP. Now I'm realising it's not just the forum, it's any site with pictures that aren't already in my cache?

I'm baffled. Any ideas?

Assuming you're using IE (all I have at work) click on Tools -> Internet Options . Click on the Advanced tab and scroll down to Multimedia, see if Show Pictures is ticked. Hmm, would that still show pics rom your cache? First thing to check anyway.

To save time, I suggest you switch to Linux. Someone will suggest it so I thought I'd save everyone the time to go through 2 posts.

Actually, the problem seems to have vanished this morning, at least on my office computer. God knows. I'd believe anything of that machine, it's ancient and clunky, but it was just so odd to have two completely unrelated computers doing it at once, and the home one a decent model running XP, too. I'll try re-boooting XP this evening, and see if that does it.

Also check to see if it reloads a new page every time, or uses cached info. That could help.

Maybe its something with cookies...?

:runaway

Ok that made me laugh this morning. And I haven'd had coffee yet.

ETA: Though you may have a valid point, DB. Depending on the browsing settings associated with the session cookie on Rolfe's account, it may be that she should empty the cookies and re-log in to fix it.

Everytime something like that happens to me, it is cookies.

I prefer tacos, tho. And bunnies.
Tacos and bunnies.

Oooooh...

NOW there is a thing called a 'session' cookie...

;)

It's doing it again. Only displaying graphics which are already in the cache. It's not just JREF, it's all sites. I've just treated myself to a picture-free look at today's BBC news.

Mmm, is you cache full? Try to right-click on your explorer icon, and select properties. Under the general tab, there should be a botton to delete temporary internet files.

Normally, windows purges old files by itself, but ......

clear your cache. find the setting that makes sure you download a new page each time you visit.

I had the exact same problem!!!

I know my way around a computer and I was completely baffled. I started a new job Tuesday, and my PC would not show any pictures on any web page. And I know all about the advanced tab settings in IE, and all options are/were as they should be.

Yet I couldn't see any pictures on any web sites. Even on CNN.COM, the images that are used for links/buttons would not show. This site also, and anything else I visited.

I crawled through the registry on this PC, ran virus spyware scans -- yet I could not fix the problem.

This morning.. everything is fine!!! And I still don't know why.

Did anyone else come in here having read the title as "Nude pictures!"?

No?

Uh, yeah, um...me neither.

Sounds like a DNS issue to me. Try browsing to a site you've never been to, www.bad-candy.com or something, if you can't do that, then it IS DNS, your computer just remembers where the site you've already visted are, but the picture links are to sites you don't actually visit.(And pictures you do see are probably hosted on the site itself)

If you can browse to it, then *shrug* it's usually a bandwidth issue at that point. Something is slowing down your downloads so much that your computer gives up on them.

Good luck

I'm getting the exact same thing on my machine at home. A restart always fixes it.

A lot of the time, it'll load to a certain point then refuse to load any more images in.

I presumed this was a side-effect of clearing out a few viruses recently.

It's OK this morning on my office computer, that is Windows 98 and broadband. I did reboot it this morning (but I did that yesterday too and it was only OK for a little while and then it all started again).

I need to remember to reboot my home computer tonight (XP and a dial-up) and see if that fixes it. It's funny I never noticed this before, and now it's happening on both computers at once.

I really think this has been an ongoing problem with windows memory managers. I have had issues with this as well--especially win98. The memory never truly "empties." Anyhow, rebooting usually works, but shutting down the power will ensure the memory clears better. XP still seems to have this issue to some extent and Macs are not immune either.

Someone more familiar with the memory structure might be able to add to this.

Have you downloaded all the current patches for IE and "Window$$"?

Have you checked for spyware?

Changing browsers is a great solution. I've used Foxfirefor years without any problems.
