Illegal Immigrants Plan to Boycott May 1

They say they'll boycott the schools (well, their illegal kids will) but is that positive or negative? Positive, clearly.

Oh, clearly.

You apparently are unaware of the fact that kids born here are not "illegal" in any way, shape, or form. Darn that pesky U.S. Constitution...

I doubt there are many, if any, illegal school teachers.

I wasn't aware that being a schoolteacher was against the law.

"Boss, I won't be in on Monday. Monday is our protest day. I must protest for your country to allow me to break the law!" Said Pedro.

Boss furrows his brows and replies, "Okay. I'll get someone to replace you. Thanks for letting me know."

"Yes, you must get someone to replace me for the day," Pedro responded.

"For the day?" Boss asked.

OK, so you know very little about what's going on. No need to advertise so clearly.

1. Workers that are steadily employed will either A) sick out or B) get the cooperation of their employers. Believe it or not, a lot of employers are cooperating with the boycott, especially those in the Latino communities.

2. If the boss thinks he's going to easily be able to find another immigrant worker as a replacement on Monday, he's got another think coming.

3. During the last day-long boycott, some people did get fired--and community pressure forced the companies to rehire them.

The point is not to have a long-term economic impact. The point is to show that "illegals" comprise a significant part of the economy.

No Cleon, the point is to attempt to grab the employers by the balls and to show they have power...except why the heck would you do that when legal employees do that now?

And that point is practically a matter of fact.

But is it negative or positive.

Will all illegals that happen to be injured on 1-may boycott the hospitals? That would be an economic positive.

Schools get payed per child attending per day, so negatvie for schools.

Para 1 - I'm not talking about the kids born here, and...

Para 2 - Context is everything. I guess you don't understand the context so I'll explain it to you: I'm talking about Illegals getting a job as a school teacher. But then, you knew that, right? One can hope.

No, you're generalizing. And your generalization is wrong.

Ah, I see that sense of humor you were so proud of suddenly evaporated and you were unable to recognize a joke when it was bloody obvious.

That's true, they'll lose out for that kid on that day. But what about the tax payer (the citizens paying for that kid's eduacation)? Clearly it will be a win (technically, anyway. I'm sure the extra funds will be diverted to something just as stupid).

2. If the boss thinks he's going to easily be able to find another immigrant worker as a replacement on Monday, he's got another think coming.

Why do you say that?

I'll check back with you on Monday afternoon. Usually, a bunch of illegals hang out at the local gas station waiting for contractors to hire them for the day.

If I don't see any lingering, I'll be sure to let you know.

I don't read German-language press either, is there a point?

Well, if you're going to declare what the point is, you're probably better off listening to what's being said by the people organizing and participating in it. And before you say "Fox News," what's being reported by the English media and what's in the Spanish-language media are very, very different.

What the German-language press has anything to do with, I dunno.

Why do you say that?

Because if the past couple of instances are any example, the participation by immigrants will be massive and overwhelming. Yeah, you're always going to find a few who aren't, but the vast majority will.

Anybody listen to the National Anthem in Spanish yet. What will this do to baseball games. There're so many Latin Americans in those games. Maybe from now on they will decide to listen to that version of the anthem sometimes. How about baseball in Puerto Rico, what version of the anthem will they listen to? Do they have their own Puerto Rican anthem? Some of the singers in the Spanish version are actually Puerto Rican

Another thing I find interesting is that the Mexican Congress actually approved the boycott and they will be sending a delegation to Los Angeles.

I'm sure it will be massive. I'm sure many employers are 'with it', especially the ones that hire illegals.

I don't think it will register a blip economically.

Let's see, I can't know what's going on even though it's super obvious because I don't read it in Spanish and I also somehow watch Fox News.

Any other fallacies you want to throw in here?

Well you know, unemlpoyment being 0% is why the protest will have that much impact...

No, it won't have much of an impact because it's one day. Boycotted stores will make up the sales on Sunday and Tuesday. The meat packing plant will schedule an extra run during cleaning time Monday at midnight. Etc.
