USA Religion Map-O-Rama

And the Mormons stapling their book to the back of the Bible and tossing it right back. . .

It's telling that the lowest coverage is "less than 35.1%". (The map of religious adherents)

When turned on it's side, why does the map, look like a silhouette of Ben Sargent's caricature of Bush?

Or does it?

.

Right by my home (in the middle of southern lower Michigan) there's a tiny enclave of Pentecostals! I never realized I was growing up in a Pentecostal dominated area.

What is the deal with Montana, anyway? How can there be strong concentrations of almost every religion there? I thought it was a fairly low-population state? Ditto North Dakota.

And northwestern Alaska is more Quaker than Pennsylvania?!?
There are only about 5000 people there. All it takes percentagewise is one big Quaker family.

It would be intereresting to see an overlay of these maps with the county-by-county Dem vs. GOP map of the 2004 election...

Tons of Catholics here in New Mexico. There's a huge surprise... (kidding)

Heh, and one chunk of Mormons where they came to convert (and steal land from) the heathen Navajo.

You know why Mormons take so much interest in native americans, don't you?

But why???
The division between religious and irreligious is more profound than the divisions between religions. Divisions within religions have caused more grief than divisions between them, but they all get together to stamp out the people who don't give a toss. That's a mutual enemy.

From where I stand, it's the other way 'round. Bush looks like a caricature of everything.
