BTW, Beady's right..we'll now be spending an ENTIRE DAY in the Bermuda Triangle..and legend tells that one of the missing planes is somewhere near Cococay...

There's also a mysterious grave on the island.

There's still a formal night on this cruise, right? Not to scare anyone who despises formalwear on vacation, as it's only necessary if one eats in the main dining room on that particular evening. But to be honest, it's one of my favorite parts of cruising. :D

How many people from the board do we have going so far?

Could you define "formal"? I have a suit, but it's for New England temperatures, not the Carribean.

I'm looking forward to the cruise! I'm not going to do any of the work! :D (Do you hear me, Jeff? I won't work!)

What are the dress codes onboard?
There are three distinct types of evenings onboard: casual, smart casual and formal. Suggested guidelines for these nights are:
Casual: Sport shirts and slacks for men, sundresses or pants for women
Smart Casual: Jackets and ties for men, dresses or pantsuits for women
Formal: Suits and ties or tuxedos for men, cocktail dresses for women

3 to 4 - night cruises include one formal night and the remainder nights are casual.
5 - night cruises include one formal and the remainder nights casual.
6 - night cruises include two formal nights, one smart casual and the remainder nights casual. 7 to 9 - night cruises include two formal nights, one smart casual night and the remainder nights casual.
10 to 13-night cruises include two formal nights, two smart casual nights, and the remainder nights casual.
14+ - night cruises include three formal nights, four smart casual nights and the remainder nights casual.

I just got off a three-month detail where I had to wear a tie to work, every day. I hate ties! I won't wear a tie, no matter the occasion. I don't even wear ties to funerals or weddings. What's more, I don't think I want to waste luggage space with a jacket or blazer.

For that matter, I'm wondering if I really need to pack underwear. Who's going to see it?

Yeah, why not? When I cruised to Jamaica, three white guys wore tuxedos, sunglasses, and rasta hats with fake dreadlocks on formal night. It was great. Now that I think of it, I wore a glittery silver and black evening gown with my hair cornrowed. Good times. I love dressing up. And men don't realize how truly awesome they look in a nice suit. "But I haaaattte it..."

Guess it's buffet city for you that night, Beady. :p
 
OK, here's the deal on this.

Formal means Tux for men. Yep, that's what it means. You can get away just fine in the dining room with a jacket and tie. If you're not willing to do that, well, you're welcome to do your own thing of course.

I usually where a black jacket and tie, but this cruise..I'm going for a tux. What the hell. I'm going to rent one from the cruise line so I don't have to deal with it.

But hey, do whatever the hell you want. It's your cruise.
 
Jeff, you HAVE to email me a photo of you in a tux after the event.

I'm nuts for penguin suits.
 
Ugh . . .

I know this isn't Jeff's fault (or JREF's for that matter), but this is a major downgrade.

We are giving up:
Historic Sites
Natural wonders like the rainforest
Unique Experiences (like cave tubing)
Cultural interaction
Shopping for local arts and crafts.
Local Cuisine

Instead we get:
A nice beach.
No shopping, culture, cuisine, or interesting nature.
A bar serving basically the same drinks we can get on the ship at tourist trap prices.
Overpriced resort equipment rentals.
Basically nothing we couldn't already find in Fort Lauderdale (and with fewer bargains and choices).

And we still have to deal with tenders!
