"Filling in for Art Bell, George Noory welcomes paranormal investigator and demonologist Lou Gentile who'll discuss his entry into James Randi's $1,000,000 paranormal challenge with his work with EVPs. He'll also cover his extensive background in violent hauntings."

I wonder if the "office" can confirm or deny an application from Gentile.

And Randi has said that:

While I’m recovering from recent surgery, the JREF will be unable to process any challenge-related activities. We will not be accepting any new applications or working on the current crop until I’m fully recovered. This may take some time.

Rest assured that the challenge is still with us…and it will be back as soon as possible. I ask your patience as I focus on regaining my strength.

As always, if you’d like to discuss your challenge ideas, the forum folk will be more than eager to give you’re their opinions.

Those wishing to correspond concerning the challenge are invited to contact Jeff Wagg at challenge@randi.org.

Thank you for your continued support,

James Randi

So with Randi recovering and Kramer gone :( I think it will be some time before there is any progress on this.

I was under the impression that one of the forum members made serious enquiries into being Kramer's replacement. Did anything come of that?

I'm sure Noory will botch as many facts about the Challenge as he can - either intentionally or as the inevitable byproduct of third-rate research. If a magic fairy doesn't leave it for Noory in his show notes, he can't discover it on his own. He does very little independent reading.

There's a thread about it as well in the challenge forum.
It's quite an interesting one, not the usual mumbo-jumbo.

It's clear though that lou Gentile's representative (Lou doesn't post on the forum himself) doesn't challenge Lou's super powers, and rather than push for more rigorous tests he chooses to blindly believe.

I.e. they never performed any blind tests, where 'them voices' would kindly record the numbers on the cards etc. that Lou wouldn't see himself.

The fact that they didn't try to establish the lmits of the paranormal power, but are rather happy with poor quality recordings, where a number of people have to first agree that they hear the same thing... draw your own conclusions.
Anyway, here's the thread:

Some folks on a board called "Nighhawk Zone" (a board filled with C2C fans) can't seem to understand the terms of the challenge, or find anything about the challenge "anywhere on the web."

I logged on, took issue with someone who suggested that Randi is ducking Gentile, and was promptly banned from the board. One post, containing the JREF URL, and I was banned.

I love how open-minded paranoids are.

Just had a look at http://s3.forumforfree.com/index.php?mforum=nighthawk&showtopic=1330.
Got to the post where some fool says
"I haven't heard Lou Gentile in quite some time. I remember listening to his 'paranormal' radio show when he chose to host The Great Debate between Nancy Lieder (ZetaTalk) and 'Bad Astronomer' Phil Plait. I hadn't heard of Plait at the time, but I assumed that anybody with a scientific background would be able to do well debating Nancy. I was so, so wrong! Within 90 seconds of the start of the debate, Nancy KO'd Plait. It was like a classic Mike Tyson fight
Plait has been scared of debates ever since ... "

Is he refering to this interview? http://www.bautforum.com/showthread.php?t=5004 :yikes: At this point, I gave up, no point discussing anything with these people.

I particularly liked the parts where Noory questioned the existence of the million dollars, didn't know Randi had a heart attack and suggested that Randi is ducking C2C because he won't agree to be interviewed by Noory.

Idiot.

Unless I am mistaked Randi had made clear that he would NOT appear on C2C well before his heart attack. So I don't think that the two things are related. In this case Noory appears to be correct.

But correct me if I am wrong I am going on memory.

This does show Noory's research team are ripping their boss off something stupid! He pays them NOT to find out stuff???!!

I think you are being a bit harsh - after all I doubt Randi's operation was featured on "Entertainment Tonight" or in the "Weekly News" so how do expect the researchers to know about his operation?

The over all handling of the claim on JREF's part leaves a lot to be desired. For example:
1)Considerable silence: they take weeks to respond when they do at all. Even more interesting JREF decided using a web sites contact form was better then oh I don't know email, phone or us mail. Messages have also been sent with the rather interesting subject: "spam" which in fact contained an alternative version of the test.

2)Bad communication: when Krammer left no one bothered to contact applicants. When Randi had his heart attack no one contacted applicants. Now in fairness Randi's had a lot of medical problems lately but frankly I was under the impression that jref was an organization. Creating a mailing list of applicants and mass sending pertinant information isn't that much work instead of expecting them to constantly visit the site for information. Thats like saying its fine for us to post answers to Randi's emails on our site but not bother to send one to him.

Theres others but so far I've lost some respect for JREF just from those.

If you want the mil you do the work. It has to be horrible to visit randi.org perhaps once a week to win a million dollar.

"Thats like saying its fine for us to post answers to Randi's emails on our site but not bother to send one to him."

I don't get that at all.

Back to the original subject.

I always thought that EVP's were an ideal subject for the challenge. It would be nice to see some sort of test done that would eliminate people finding patterns in noise and the chance of recorders picking up stray signals.

Can They

SO by that logic since JREF is so hyped up on the challenge from Gentile they should just go to his web site for updates insteead of expecting emails. OR we could act like we're grown ups and make an effort to contact people instead of being lazy. BTW if since I"m sure you guys haven't bothered to check Lou's site I'd point out he himself has been injured recently which will slow any contact on our part.
