Actually, the real joke was just putting these up on the 1st of April, they aren't a joke in themselves, we're going to be stuck with them from now on to pay for the hosting of this forum.
Don't complain otherwise Darat will add negative points to your new "reputation", how do you think mine got so bad?
 
Somehow guys out of all the click-through ads out there in cyberspace I find it hard to swallow that a message board - which is home to skeptics - would chose homeopathic remedies, astrology & live psychic readings. I was born at night ...but not last night. ;)

I really thought the board had been hacked! I even wrote to darat, and got the following reply:

The board doesn't choose these kinds of ads. Software (Google?) scans message topics and text, then posts ads with prominent topics/text words. You sometimes get amusing results.

on a serious note, until they fixed it the adds on www.badscience.net where for all kinds of alt-med crap. Google adds aren't particularly good at ascertaining context, so because lost of alt-med crap was debunked on Badscience, goggle thought it would be something the readers where interested in. And that didn't even happen in April.

If you click on the ads they all return a "404 file not found". That was my first clue my dear Watson. ;)
 
I'm disappointed, myself. I had thought that these were ad-software generated, and that they managed to get here because these boards had references to psycic powers and what not. I liked the idea that they were paying for the upkeep of the JREF boards.

Still, it was a good April Fool's joke.

actually, series on some of them did work, even earlier than that though, there was just a box which said "generating links" and no actual ads.
 
I would love them so much more if they were just moved to the right of the threads. I hate having to scroll all the time.

Of COURSE it's not a joke. And of COURSE you have a horrible, horrible reputation. And of COURSE your post is not part of the joke...
 
First of all... SSSSSSSSSH!

Secondly, I really don't think this a good joke. A webdesign of this level of suckitude is morally equivalent to THROWING DEADLY ACID INTO PEOPLES' FACES. Sure, we've all done it once or twice, but shouldn't JREF be more mature than that?

Speaking of jokes, has anyone else noticed the dots underneath our post count where if you pass your mouse pointer over it, it either says you are a troll or an "unknown quantity"?
