Hand wringing episodes.

Out of curiosity, did it disturb you the first time you saw him do it?
I think it endeared him to me - he was watching television, got very excited, and wrang his hands, touching his face and thighs, in a pattern that I grew to recognize.

He only does it when excited, often in anticipation of something.

Guys,

When I was real young, I used to pull at my hair when I was nervous or upset and had a bald spot at about 7-8. That sounds like a form of Tourett's syndrome. Mark, were you ever prescribed anxiety or anti-depressant medication?

My mom rubs her hands together when she's satisfied with something, but she didn't notice she was doing it until she was told.

I have some mild things, but more habits than obsessions (I think).

The microwave thing drives me nuts too. In the same vein, my wife has a habit of not fully closing the door, so it looks closed but the light is on. Drives me nuts.

Light switches are my other thing. We have multiple switches for the kitchen/living room lights (each has two or more exits, and switches near each exit). They're in banks of two to four switches. I hate it when, say, the four-bank has two switches up and two down. I have toi get all the switches in the same direction. So, I'll turn off the light at one place, walk across the room, flip it, then back to flip the original switch so they're all even.

Why don't you replace them with the touch sensitive switches? That way you can't see which one is up or down.

Sure, just send the check to cover the parts and installation, I'll get right on it ;)

All it takes is a screwdriver and the ability to turn off a breaker (or play chicken and not). The switches are not expensive. Say a few six packs of beer or whatever.

Perhaps you actually enjoy this little pastime? No problem.:D

Nah, it's just never been that big a deal. I hate it when they're uneven, but it doesn't happen that often now.

It's more the time it's take to swap out switches that I don't want to mess with (considering an outside breaker box with an overactive dog, as well). Maybe in a few weeks, when we're planning on repainting the living room.

When I had health insurance through U.S. Cellular, I spoke with a psychiatrist who gave me a supply of Paxil (in sample packets) for depression, but I didn't mention my fits. However, I was fired soon after that so when the supply ran out, that was it.

I didn't recall it really having much of an effect on me, though. Perhaps I wasn't on it for long enough.

For the first time in my life, I suddenly feel very normal. I'm not sure how I feel about that, though......

On one of the Yahoo! groups, someone suggested I might have Asperger's (a mild form of autism, although I gather there's some debate about that), presumably as a result of some of my communique's. He sent a link to a test for Asperger's, and it turns out I have some Aspie traits. After doing the test, I think everyone does! Here it is, in case anyone wants to give it a whirl:

You sound pretty sane to me. Quirks we all have, it's just when they control our lives that we have a problem, unless of course the real quirk is something akin to hypochondria, which finds major flaws in minor habits. Anyone ever bite their nails? Anyone ever bite their toenails? Arthritis cures the latter for sure.:o
