• Quick note - the problem with Youtube videos not embedding on the forum appears to have been fixed, thanks to ZiprHead. If you do still see problems let me know.

OK, Boomspeed is all very cute and stuff, but it hardly gives more than a megabyte of space. I could use multiple accounts, but that would make a mess.

So is there any site that is free, gives decent amount space, and allows linking to images? (Yeah. I know, and I want a pony too!)

I've never had a problem with Photobucket, from their FAQ;

Q: How much disk space and bandwidth do I get?
A: Currently, Free accounts get 50 MB of space and 2,500 MB of bandwidth per month. Premium accounts are allowed up to 1 GB of disk space and have bandwidth restrictions lifted. Please see Upgrade for more details..

And since the upgrade is $25 a year that's still a pretty good deal

Flickr is an ever increasingly popular solution for people who like the idea of a web-based photo sharing site with profile, friend list, and blog elements. Presently I use Photobucket to store my images.

Nex recently turned me on to Xanga:

http://www.xanga.com/

I've found that the uploads are extremely fast and not only does it automatically create both url and html linking, it allows you to easily alter the photo size (including automatically altering the link).

I believe the free membership gives 200mb of storage.

Thanks all. I went with photobucket as they were mentioned first and they seem to have the features I need. Xanga looked good, but was more of a community site than a photo site.

I posted this in the "War!" thread:

Very useful for finding a place to host your images.

Wasn't too sure about that place, was definitely aimed at the Fark\Something Awful type photoshopping contents, not for a more average user.

I'd probably have been happier if they gave reasons for their ratings though, the free photobucket account got their "avoid" score, probably for the capped bandwidth, but for most of us forum denizens it's not really an issue.

They rate ImageCave (with only 1 GB data transfer per month) as "OK-". Go figure!

All your criticisms are valid, but I am not aware of any such lists for photo-sharing in particular.

Photobucket if you want to seriously organise them, and imageshack for the simplicity of quick hotlinking. :)
