What do you think of Dr. Roger Leir and his books: "The Aliens & the Scalpel"?

I mean: I'm really surprise that there is no article about this guy in "Skeptical Inquirer" or "SKeptic". He claims than he chirurgicaly extracted several implants from abductees and the skeptical community don't talk about it? Even here I didn't find any threads about him...

My feeling is that skeptics should investigate this guy thorougly...
 
Well, given that the first preliminary lab reports were in 1996, and it is now 2006, I think we can assumed absolutely nothing came of any further testing :rolleyes:

Dr. Leir's next concern was how to safeguard and preserve the objects until they could be transported to a lab for analysis. In other cases of alleged implant retrievals, objects have reportedly turned to powder, disintegrated, or somehow disappeared
I think the correct phrase is "disappeared in a puff of reality" ;)

He probably believes the alien implant nonsense to a certain extent, but I'm sure that he's also motivated by the fact that speaking at UFO conventions and selling silly books is a much better gig than ingrown toenails and bunions.

Regular old foot doctors don't get to be guests on the Art Bell show.
 
Not a doctor, but those descriptions sound an awful lot like cysts or accessory bones or bone chips--except for the little piece of metal in the middle.

Why is it whenever someone has something really cool and exciting they never give any details or solid evidence?
 
Actually, I recall a story about the removal of an "alien implant" that turned out to be cellulose...cotton fiber, if I remember correctly. IOW, a piece of underwear lin that got embedded in the skin somehow. I wish I could remember the source of this tale...I want to say it was in Shermer's "Why People Believe Wierd Things". If I remember, I'll check it tonight and see if it's the same guy involved.

Don't think so. I red Shermer's book some weeks ago and he don't say anything about Dr Lear (or I slept during this page :p ).

I'm curious, how many people who don't claim to have been abducted have foreign objects embedded in their feet? Being a native Floridian I frequantly go shoeless and have my whole life. I wouldn't be suprised at all to find that some sliver of something or other was under my skin. It would seem simple to ask some other foot doctors how often they see this in non abductees.

I seem to remember this particular doctor finding things in peoples feet. But my memory is far, far from perfect so maybe I'm wrong.

I forgot to look, again.

Our cat got out of the house last night and is still missing this morning. My son's a bit upset over it, so I was distracted (yeah, that's my excuse...really!)

ANyway, feet would have all sorts of possibilities for foreign objects embedded in the skin, considering the thickness of the skin there and the fact that you walk on em :)

If I can ever pull my head outta my 4th point of contact long enough to remember to check my sources, I'll post the story summary here.
 
Hey I've got an alien implant!

Oh wait, no, that's just a piece of graphite that got imbedded in my leg back in sixth grade when one of the ED kids stabbed me with his pencil (I think he had to go to the office for the rest of the period for it - got to love public schools).

Sad. For an instant there I thought I was so special.

No, no, no! That "kid" was an alien. The "graphite" is a highly sophisticated tracking device that carefully monitors your consumption of soya sauce (don't ask why, you don't want to know). And you thought he went to the office, but he actually beamed back to the mothership because he was out of implants.

C'mon, if you can't figure out a simple little scenario like this, you'll really be in trouble once the serious tagging starts...:D
