Merged Australian Politics / Australian election

You needed to be there at that time. The host was a very cuddly ABC lovvie who I can’t recall right now. He was not just broadcasting. He was one with the caller. Even Jon Faine, a true lefty ABC broadcaster later disagreed with his colleague.

How do I know, you might think? The beauty of talk back radio is that you can talk back. I told Jon Faine how I felt. He agreed.

Yes, a side issue I suppose,
Talkback, the chewing gum of the boring.

Oooh, is there a can of worms hiding here somewhere?

I see the attacker's parents were well-known to Helen Haines, but more curiously, the attack comes after an (alleged) attempted hatchet-job by Monsieur Albo. That's not a good look for Mr Integrity.

Albanese's office had recently circulated a dirt sheet to journalists baselessly raising questions about Haines' integrity after she criticised a $6million government grant allocated to his local golf course in Marrickville in Sydney's inner-west.

It's from the Fail, but if the document doesn't exist, the Press Gallery should be able to debunk it right now.

One thing is now clear - suggestions of it being a terrorist action are baloney.

Lone wolf nutcase, and charged as such.

I’m a lefty too and always vote Labor. But one participant in this thread tried, unsuccessfully, to link the Bondi massacre to Gaza. And I listened to ABC radio after 9/11 when the hosts allowed callers to say what a pity it was that the US didn’t suffer more and that the Pentagon should have been completely destroyed. Without the host condemning the comment.

I didn’t imagine any of this. I’m allowed to point out the shortcomings of my side.

Your last sentence is better than most.

What we know about Brendan Nugent:

What we have, in fact, is a weak narcissist who thinks the world owes him a living, (“wah, I’m only on the DSP not NDIS”; “I’m smart, so why won’t someone give me a job”) and is 100% responsible for his own actions.

Unhinged? Sure. Who wouldn’t be given the amount of weed he was consuming? But that doesn’t make him mentally ill, and there is absolutely no evidence he was.

But it’s only a matter of time before the ABC, the Age or the Guardian (or all three) declare him the real victim.

They aren't doing that. THC is seriously underestimated for the amount of damage it can do to mental health. He had been narcissistic, if you want, but had not shown any inclination to violence and had shown mental health issues when he was still a teenager.

I have always said that self induced intoxication or psychosis should be considered a mandatory aggravating factor in crimes.

All that has been reported about his mental health is that family members were concerned.
