Notable Passings and other milestones

Marjoe Gortner, 82.
I was just thinking about him the day before he passed.

Had this idea of skit in my head of some agent on the BBC going on about "What happened to all the curly headed main men on TV? We used to have Tom Baker, Gareth Roberts, Colin Baker, Steven Pacey, Barry Andrews, William Katt! Somebody get me Marjoe Gortner on the line!"

Celtic music legend Dónal LunnyWP died today.

Dónal Lunny (10 March 1947 – 23 October 2026) was an Irish folk musician and producer. He played guitar and bouzouki, as well as keyboards and bodhrán. As a founding member of popular bands Planxty, The Bothy Band, Moving Hearts, Coolfin, Mozaik, LAPD, and Usher's Island, he was at the forefront of the renaissance of Irish traditional music for over five decades. In 2025, he was the recipient of the RTÉ Radio 1 Folk Awards Lifetime Achievement Award.

Even my local station had an article about Michael Gray, who played Billy Batson on the Shazam! TV show back in the 70s. I don't know that he did much of note after that, but I did recognize him (mostly from the clothing) in a cameo in the second Shazam movie a few years ago.

Michael Gray, "TV's Billy Batson," passed away on Oct. 16, aged 75. Shazam! was one of my guilty Saturday morning pleasures as a child.
I encountered him when he played a parody version of himself on Archer on a couple of occasions. He was pretty good.

He graduated to that rarified stratum of actors who get to play themselves as characters.
Such as acclaimed character actress Margo Martindale!

She played herself on Bojack Horseman, and the joke was that each time she was mentioned --including by herself--she was referred to in full as "acclaimed character actress Margo Martindale".
