Fixing America

Does MAGA understand how government works? That some spending is essential. If we cut it off, how soon will MAGA realize "that thing" was paid by the governmnet?
The GOP has followed the same pattern for decades. Spend tons of money, cut taxes for your friends and funnel the money to the top 1%. Then let the Democrats fix the economy and whine about them spending taxes and maybe raising them, even if that raise realistically only hits the top 1%.

The MAGA/Liberal split in academic terms. There are some solutions in the PDF:

Republicans assigned to the private website were 20 percentage points more likely to enroll in aninsurance plan than Republicans assigned to the government website (see their figure 4 and thediscussion on p. 764). Likely because of President Obama’s association with the health insuranceexchanges, partisan considerations shaped Republicans’ behavior here. But when they were showna private website—which obscured the government’s role—they became more willing to enroll. In an era of affective polarization, downplaying politics can help to mitigate partisan divisions. Both of these approaches represent important contributions to the literature and highlight

trump is an idiot, but he's really good at stealing money. there's constantly an angle to everything they do, from selling steaks to watches to knives, it's a series of scams.
Not Trump personally. It's his faceless "people" who run his companies. They are extremely happy he is such an awful, shiny, crappy, deluded, awful gee-gaw distracting the public and media. All the more easier to go undetected with these quasi-legal scams.
but yeah this is probably the one thing

I've been assured that there is no reason to believe that the man who cheats at/on everything: golf, his wives, his partners, his contractors, his citizens, doesn't cheat on his taxes.

Of all the lawfare deployed against him during the Biden presidency, none of it was about that. If there was any evidence of this, it would have already come out.

The Trump Organization was convicted in New York state court of 17 counts of criminal tax fraud, conspiracy, and falsifying business records. [1, 2]

Key Details of the Conviction
    • Guilty Entities: The Manhattan jury convicted two corporate entities: The Trump Corporation and The Trump Payroll Corporation. [1, 2]
    • The Scheme: The companies ran a 15-year compensation scheme providing top executives—such as former Chief Financial Officer Allen Weisselberg—with off-the-books luxury perks like rent-free Manhattan apartments, car leases, and private school tuition without paying proper payroll taxes. [1, 2, 3]
    • Penalties: A New York judge fined the two entities a combined $1.6 million ($810,000 for Trump Corp. and $800,000 for Trump Payroll Corp.), which was the maximum fine allowed by law. [1]
    • Donald Trump's Role: Donald Trump himself was not personally named as a criminal defendant in the corporate tax trial. [1, 2]
    • Key Witnesses: Former CFO Allen Weisselberg pleaded guilty to related charges, testified for the prosecution, and served a five-month jail sentence. [1, 2]

Other Investigations and Civil Actions
    • Civil Fraud Case: Separately, a New York civil fraud case brought by the New York Attorney General resulted in a major judgment against Donald Trump and his co-defendants for inflating asset values to secure favorable loans. [1]
    • New York Times Investigation: A 2018 investigative report by The New York Times alleged long-standing family tax avoidance and wealth-transfer strategies involving Donald Trump and his parents' estate. [1, 2]
Trump is also famous for deliberately lying about the size of his properties to lower his tax responsibilities.

Which is why when he attempted to establish his slush fund, he also included a demand that he, his company, and his family be immune from audits of current and previous tax filings.
