Pet peeves about philosophy

Oh, I thought you were going to start whining about philosophers constantly mentioning every other philosopher that ever lived, making philosophy completely incomprehensible to the casual reader that didn't read all that other crap. Even Philosophers whine about that.

Making it silly too, btw. Just because one can quote Plato saying so, doesn't mean it IS so. Otherwise Aquinas would be objectively correct, God exists, quantum mechanics is wrong, end of story, we can all go find something else to discuss.

I think the trolley problem is sort of interesting, at least briefly, but not, perhaps, for the reasons some do. It's interesting to me because it has no right answer, and because it illustrates in a way why simple doctrines and generalities are of little use in the real world, where certain issues are never resolved, not because someone is wrong, but because they cannot be.

In a Wizards With Guns sketch they came up with a good answer to the trolley problem: "For the record, I'd shoot the driver...then myself!"
