Various polls today suggesting Trump's approval rating has dropped to 31%, a record low for him. If accurate, while it's far from a record low for any President (Truman had 22% in 1952 in the wake of the Korean War), it is the lowest rating any President has had going into the midterms. Truman had a 33% rating going into the 1946 midterms, an election which saw his party lose control of both houses (50 seat loss in the House, 11 in the Senate).

I know this is such stupid hyperbole that it sounds funny, but when politicians in these kinds of positions are spouting fear mongering lies like this it's really dangerous, this is the language that tinpot dictators use when they're rilling up their supporters to slaughter the opposition, I hope it won't work, but I think they're actively trying to provoke violence.

That'd be an absolute novelty in US foreign policy. Outside of (some) Western European countries, the US has always favoured dictatorship over democracy.
