The behaviour of UK police officers.

I'm sorry for not getting rid of officers who abused you but it's not really our fault.

I know why victims accept such settlements and I understand why organisations push for such settlements without accepting liability, but it still doesn't serve justice.

I'm not sure if there's a way around it that doesn't harm the victims thiu

From Rolfe's link, these guys are animals!

"figures obtained by STV News show nearly 70% of Police Scotland officers who are currently suspended while under criminal investigation are accused of offences relating to violence against women.

The allegations include domestic abuse, sexual offences and stalking. The figures show that, out of 53 suspended officers facing criminal investigation, 26 officers are accused of domestic abuse-related offences, nine are accused of sexual offences and two are accused of stalking."

Despite my own early extremely unpleasant experiences with the police I think 20 odd years ago I would have been much more positive about the police, probably trotted out the Peel stuff "policing with consent". What I now see is that it was "policing with ignorance". There has been some transformative legislation, PACE in 1984, which came about after failings in policing was groundbreaking and put an end to a lot of bad practices. But what we now know is that whilst processes may have improved fundamentally policing was corrupted to its core. And despite all these cases of police officers committing terrible crimes under the guise of their uniform coming to light I think policing in the UK remains broken. When we see that recent undercover investigations still show hideous casual racist and misogynistic behaviour I can't see how anyone can claim policing isn't broken.

What percentage is that of Police Scotland Officers as a whole?

Mate, it would take seconds for you to find that out for yourself so, respectfully, why haven't you?

I could tell you but I'd like to know where you're intending to take it in this thread?

I sincerely hope it's not the, "but that's a small number!", argument?

I'm sure you're not looking to make the case that only a small number of the people tasked with making us not rape, sexually assault and batter our partners actually do rape, sexually assault and batter their partners so that's OK.

I was never an MDC aspirant but......

Takes a criminal to catch a criminal....

I take the view that Police Scotland have now got their act together and are presently rooting out misogynist criminal police officers in a way that has never happened in the entire history of policing in Scotland.

Which would be good if we had any reason at all to trust that this was happening. What I suspect will actually be happening is that the cliques will be formed, using the likes of WhatsApp - as we know has happened in the past - and they will simply try to hide it from those they think would report them.

The convictions have all been due to reports by the public or other police officers and nothing to do with WhatsApp.

Roughly 75% of current suspensions for domestic abuse, sexual offenses, assault, or stalking come from the public civilian victims. I don't think we should be seeing that as a reason to trust the process.

It might indicate the police are recording the complaints properly instead of telling the victims to ◊◊◊◊ off and shut up as we've seen far too often in the past.

Exactly. If a MOP, civilian, whatever you want to call someone who is not a police officer, reports they have been the victim of a crime by a police officer, this is proof that complaint is taken seriously and fully investigated.

It's the substance of the complaints that concern me. Giving the Scottish Police a pat on the back for actually dealing with rapey, perverted, stalking wife beaters is not the win I have in mind. It's their ◊◊◊◊◊◊◊ job to protect "MOP, civilian, whatever you want to call".... them, against that behaviour. Not to actively take part in it!

This site is a goldmine for self confessed police haters like me! As if normal, everyday punters catching police, thanks to the ability to record the tyrants on their phones, isn't enough here we can see the vile individuals that make up too much of the force. I registered, YMMV, and it looks like there is a paid tier for even more, in depth, info.

Here we can read about two "bad apples" getting cooked, more info is available at the links in the numerals. That should be it then hmm? Can't be too many more bad apples left after all this cleaning up and revision of recruitment policies? Right?

1) A Metropolitan Police officer who secretly unhooked his female massage therapist’s bra before mocking her for being terrified has been sacked after a misconduct panel found he subjected her to a humiliating ordeal during a private appointment.

PC David Brown asked the woman to have sex with him, grabbed her hands and pulled her into an unwanted embrace before undoing her bra through her clothing.

When the shocked therapist pulled away, he told her: ‘You haven’t even noticed that I’ve just unhooked your bra.’

And as she desperately tried to refasten it, the officer taunted her: ‘Look at you, all ◊◊◊◊ scared, pathetic, trying to get your bra done up.’

2) A Metropolitan Police sergeant who drunkenly groped a female colleague’s bottom and intimate area during a boozy Christmas party has been sacked after a misconduct panel ruled she had committed gross misconduct.

Acting Police Sergeant Rachel Bright was dismissed without notice after a disciplinary hearing found she had deliberately touched the younger officer inappropriately, tried to kiss her on the lips and made a shocking remark about getting her attention.
