Cont: The Russian Invasion of Ukraine part 9

Russia has accused Ukraine of attacking an oil refinery after Volodymyr Zelensky said such strikes, which had been halted at the request of the US, would resume.

The Kremlin has since said Kyiv "attempted a large-scale attack" on a refinery south of Moscow early on Thursday.

According to Russia's defence ministry, four missiles and dozens of drones were intercepted and the falling debris had caused a fire at the site in Ryazan.

it is incorrect that Starlink doesn't work in Russia.
What Russia lacks is authorized terminals - when the US finally decided to fully support Ukraine, all terminals in the region had to be cleared against a list of "not Russia" operators or they would be blocked. Ukrainians made good business selling Russian companies supposedly "hacked" terminals that would work - but didn't.
But if Musk doesn't throttle bandwidth for the region, a Ukrainian drone with a Starlink terminal can operate in most of Russia remotely.

I was under the impression that they geofenced the service from being used in Russia. I might be wrong.

Well the important part is that a fire was started and Russia understands that Ukraine will start going after their refineries again. Boy I hope they go balls out too. Burn every single ◊◊◊◊◊◊◊ one of them to the ground.

Sources in Ukraine's Ministry of Defence told the BBC early on Thursday that Starshield's "operation while on the move" had been restored, referring to the the military-focused version of Starlink.

I'm genuinely curious if there was GOP pushback on Trump behind the scenes. I don't want to give them undeserved recognition but they had to realize how ◊◊◊◊◊◊◊ terrible the optics of that was, especially when Musk pointed the finger at the White House.

Being the cause of innocent Ukrainian deaths is going to hurt worse in the midterms than gas prices, well..for some at least.

I'm genuinely curious as to what his betrayal of Ukraine will do to his approval ratings. Will he finally drop below -30%?

Also, don't ask me how 34% can still approve, not to mention how 4% can still be undecided.

There certainly is some pushback.

Republican senator Thom Tillis:

The latest reporting suggests this strategic snafu may have occurred more locally within DOD Starshield systems, not with Starlink or SpaceX. I’m not holding my breath for Defense Secretary Hegseth to offer transparency, so we’ll be asking the DOD Inspector General to initiate an investigation and report back to Congress and the American People. Meanwhile, both Ukrainian civilians and U.S. diplomatic and security personnel were placed at unnecessary risk and without warning. At best, this was an unacceptable error or lapse, and at worst a conscience decision to clear the field for a Russian attack.

the tiny "not sure" number should scare the heck out of Republicans. It strongly suggests that the trend is irreversible.

Excellent. So now DOD gets to investigate whether it was caused by incompetence or collusion with Russia.

Meanwhile I can't help wondering, if this problem, restricting Starshield to 100mph within Ukraine, was something that happened inside the DOD, why was Starlink also restricted to 50mph there?

34% of the public would support Mickey Mouse if he was a member of their political party. And this is not just an American disease.
Of course, I have no party loyalty whatsoever.

And over the past few days Putin Russian bots have been working overtime. They must be on a 24 hour schedule in those dachas outside of Saint Petersburg.

They'll no doubt continue hitting targets, with better and better weapons. Best part is, the more they improve their already impressive range, the more new enemy targets they can start hitting. 8600 km puts them within striking distance of Mar-a-Lardo😏.

(In case this disclaimer is actually needed: No, I don't think they should fire ballistic missiles at US targets. I'm being sassy.)

I occasionally look at a former US friend's FB account. Despite all that is happening in the world he posts nothing except how much he hates Democrats and boosts any wild claim about how corrupt they are. Simply he hates Democrats more than he loves his country.

Btw, since we should cite sources on skeptics forums, the website I used to measure that was distance.to.

Maybe it's a coping mechanism? He knows how bad Drumpf is, but if he can keep himself convinced the Democrats are somehow worse, then he's somehow still right?

No he's lost the plot. Virulently racist, denies global warming, I don't think he's gone vaccine denial YET. It started when he decided Chi (as in an abstract energy) was real as he was too smart to be fooled. Once he went down that rabbit hole ...... As Zelazny wrote "Doubt, Lady, is the chastity of the mind, and I bear its seal upon my own." So yeah he's ◊◊◊◊◊◊ in the head.

What part of "Putin has stated many times he wants to destroy the United States as a Major Power" does/nt Trump or his GOP supporters get.
they welcome it: Putin is The Most Christian King, and Russia properly mistreats non-Christians, LGBTQ, non-whites etc. They want the US to become more like what they imagine current Russia to be.
