The behaviour of UK police officers.

A police force accused of "serious corruption" has announced it will investigate the allegations locally.

Surrey Police said the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) had advised that its own professional standards department could look into the complaints following a review.

It comes after Chris Coghlan, the MP for Dorking and Horley, alleged the force tipped off suspects during a criminal misconduct in public office investigation into SEND officers at Surrey County Council.

Surrey Police says it takes any allegation about staff conduct "extremely seriously".

It comes after...
...Reform UK cleared itself of breaking laws that ban foreign donations.

This is clearly just normal procedure.

Threw a random question into Gemini AI. Kept it as open as possible. I asked...

"How many serving police officers have been suspended in 2026, in Scotland, Wales and England in total. Please answer the specific question"

Result?

While a combined grand total for the three nations is unavailable for this specific year, recent data from individual jurisdictions reveals:
  • Scotland: As of October 2026, Police Scotland confirmed there are 53 serving police officers currently suspended while facing criminal investigations. (This includes 45 constables, 6 sergeants, and 2 inspectors). Out of these, 45 officers are specifically suspended over allegations of violence against women and girls.
What!? The majority for, "allegations of violence against women and girls."
  • England and Wales: The Home Office does not publish live monthly updates on active suspensions for all 43 territorial forces combined. The most recent centralized snapshot showed 923 open officer suspensions, but specific, comprehensive 2026 totals will only be published retrospectively in the next Home Office annual Police Misconduct England and Wales statistical release. Independent reviews noted that 2026 has seen a record peak in both dismissals and suspensions across English and Welsh forces due to increased activity within Professional Standards Departments.
You could make the case that something seems to getting done to clear out the wrong 'uns.

Followed up with...

"How many serving police officers have been sacked in 2026, in Scotland, Wales and England in total. Please answer the specific question"

The result?

...according to the latest official statistical data published in 2026, the specific breakdown of dismissals is as follows:
  • England and Wales: A record 461 police officers were dismissed or had their contracts terminated during the 2025/2026 financial year (up until 31 March 2026), according to official data published by the Home Office. [1]
  • Scotland: Independent data spanning the exact total for 2026 has not yet been centralized. For context on active disciplinary actions, Police Scotland reported in October 2026 that 53 officers were currently suspended pending ongoing criminal investigations, but an annual total for completed sackings has not been finalized.
Hmm, thoughts?

This website keeps a record of police misconduct hearings and their outcomes which may be of interest to some here:

It also has info on IOPC investigations and criminal hearings, although some of it is restricted behind a login.

Thanks for that. Some disappointing but entirely unsurprising reading there.

A really good, nine minute, bit of info from the redoubtable Rob Warner containing some shocking, but unsurprising, stats.

My thoughts are there's no easy way to check those numbers and figure out if Gemini is hallucinating or not. Did you make any effort at all to track down its sources?

It's not difficult at all. Fill your boots and if the figures are wrong let me know [hint] there are links within the AI generated response. Like, but not exclusively, *Home Office (gov.uk) * Police Scotland *Various news media companies. . I'm confident that these numbers are legit, just as confident as I am that many, too many, serving police officers are :-

This is NOT filmed by an auditor or content creator, this is posted on YT BY an auditor. Those of you who think that auditors deserve whatever the police throw at them can CALM DOWN!

This is what can happen to you if you look at a police officer at Tesco's in Bury St Edmonds then fail to become an obsequious, milquetoast from 1st contact. After pursing this person, stopping him, getting out of the car and walking up to him, one officer warns him, "get out my face". You couldn't write this ◊◊◊◊.
