The document that Elgin produced, approximately two years after the theft, to justify the theft was written in Venetian and pupotedly signed by the governor of Athens. All official documents of the Porte and its representatives was never produced nor could ever be shown to have existed.

And even if one had existed, what right did the Ottomans have to disburse Greek artifacts?

In neither a moral sense nor in a sense that would stand legal scrutiny did Elgin have the right to first destroy the marbles and secondly cart their remains back to London nor thirdly to profit greatly from their sale.
If we are going to do this. Responding to others as well.
1) It was not plunder; this is taking things by force during military action. This was regarded as legitimate under the rules of war for many centuries, but the circumstances were restricted. E.g. the British army took part in plunder during the Peninsula war under orders from an Irish man. Viz naval warfare and prizes.
2) It was not loot; this is the illegal taking things by force during military action. This was regarded as illegitimate under the rules of war. E.g. the British army hung soldiers who looted during the Peninsula war under orders from an Irish man.

The Elgin marbles were not taken by force nor as a consequence of military action, therefore they were neither plunder nor loot. The Benin Bronzes were taken as plunder, contemporaneously this was legitimate. Now plunder is not regarded as legitimate consequence of military action except by Trump.

3) The absence of documents is not the same as forgery; which is what you originally claimed. The translation is evidence for the existence of an original. The lack of any objection by the local authorities was also evidence that authority had been given.
4) What we now call Greece did not exist then, and was part of the Ottoman Empire; they had an absolute right to do whatever they wanted within their empire. There was certainly no alternative authority.
5) I gave a link to a legal opinion by an actual lawyer that contradicts your opinion.
6) The ethical / moral issue is irrelevant as this is a thread about Trump. This is about might not right.

Johnson: Something is happening. It feels like 2024. The polling is not reflecting this. The polling is not letting everyone know what is really happening. They are under sampling Republicans. How many of you have entered a political poll in the last six months? Nobody.
I go to airplane hangars and big arenas like this all over the country. I can't find anyone who comes to our events who has entered a poll.

There were 56 signers of the Declaration of Independence.

Just a reminder…

-56 of them were Christian
-0 of them were Muslim

Perhaps we should also be reminded that none of them were women, none of them blacks, none of them Asians, and so on … The world has changed a lot since the days when freedom was only for Christians.

Why did Ilhan Omar report a Net Worth of up to 30 Million Dollars just a short time ago, and then immediately say, "Oh, I made a mistake! It's really $100,000."
Could it be that her highly paid accountant actually reported the money that was stolen from her fraudulent activities in Minnesota?
Would something like that be possible?
Do you think the accountant actually gave the right number the first time, 30 Million Dollars, and then she was forced to disavow because she never would have been able to report where that much money came from?
She must have freaked out when she saw that money!
Where did her house come from, where did her cars come from, and what about her lovely place in Washington, D.C.?
I didn't know that Congressmen and women made that kind of money, but I do know her husband, according to information and belief, makes almost nothing, so it couldn't have come from him.
How many people did she illegally bring into our Country from Somalia?
America wants answers, and we want them, NOW!

How can “New York State Attorney General,” Letitia James, be allowed to investigate the Cornell rape scandal, when she is a DIRTY AND DISGUSTING COP herself, and has ZERO credibility?
Any decision will be appealed by her mere presence on this case.
The stench of Letitia James will greatly add to the anguish that everybody feels in viewing how this case is being handled.
The Governor should take James off this case, IMMEDIATELY, and replace her with somebody who is not a Third Rate, Crooked Politician!

Heading to Alaska to do a major Rally for Senator Dan S. Sullivan, one of the best and most respected Senators in D.C., Congressman Nick Begich, a fantastic Warrior and Advocate for everything that is important for Alaska, and Bernadette Wilson, who is running for Governor, unfortunately, against two lesser Candidates, who she beat in the Primary, making it difficult in that three Republicans are running against one weak, Radical Left Dumocrat, but threesomes always make it hard to win — Very unfair!

The Houthis are behaving very badly. I thought they learned their lesson a year ago when we bombed the HELL out of them and, at their request, stopped.
They’ve been silent for a long time, but now they’ve emerged again, probably at the behest of Iran, which is a Failing Nation, with No Navy, No Airforce, the World’s Worst Economy, and 301% Inflation, in a very nasty way, hitting Saudi Arabia, and purposefully trying to drive up Oil Prices, probably prior to the U.S. Elections.
NOT NICE.
Somebody should explain to them that I’m not running in the Elections, I’ve already won, IN A MASSIVE LANDSLIDE, but I’ll be there after the Elections, and I will never forget!

Happy Birthday to the United States Navy!
It is now 251 years of Victories, Old and New.
What they’ve done with the impenetrable Steel Wall (Sometimes referred to as the Blockade) in the Hormuz Strait is another Historic Achievement, one of many.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY U.S. NAVY!
