The behaviour of UK police officers.

I think the evidence is that the culture is changing, with some still holding onto the old culture of ignoring misconduct and others now prepared to report it. It was never going to be the flick of a switch.

I bet you some workplaces have people whose conduct is dreadful and others where there is zero tolerance to anything. I am sure most places are like the police, where some people live charmed lives and get protected and others do something minor and get the book thrown at them.
I do not believe the police is an outlier when it comes to workplace conduct and discipline.
I do.

Maybe if that was a true description of what people are being arrested for, your point would be valid.
It is a true description of what type of offences are the vast majority of those "communications offences" are. So yep my point is very valid. Domestic abuse victims should not have to put up with attackers contacting them, people should not have to put up with stalkers, people should not have to put up with harassment and so on.

If you don't believe my summary - look for yourself: https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopula...ns/crimeinenglandandwales/yearendingmarch2026

Granted that doesn't cover NI and Scotland but I see no reason why there would be a significant deviation from the E&W percentages.

This thread is about police behaviour. Nobody is complaining about police behaviour when they're arresting someone for the sort of behaviour you described. We're complaining about police behaviour when they're arresting people for mildly (or even more than mildly) offensive social media posts which aren't even sent directly to the person complaining.

Perhaps then you should edit or delete the content of your post: #4,058 because that was a post that lumped for example all death threats via a text message to domestic abuse victims from their attackers in with the outliers....

It is a true description, in many cases. The issue is when it is not true and the arrests are for pish.

"I do not believe the police is an outlier when it comes to workplace conduct and discipline."

I do not agree that the military is a "workplace" in the sense we were using to talk about employers and workplaces. If internally the police culture is one that does believe it is the same type of "workplace" as the military services that could indicate yet another area in which the police need to change.

There are a lot of ex forces in the police, which has clearly brought a lot of problems with it. The armed forces are a workplace, with many learning trades and in support and bureaucratic services. I suspect many businesses have similar issues, especially male dominated ones, such as building and mechanics.

There is no situation an attending police officer won't make worse. There is no opportunity to escalate an attending police officer will not take. Attending police officers like to goad members of the public.

There is no chance this POS wasn't going to arrest this individual. He predicted the outcome from the start.

"A former Derbyshire Constabulary officer has been charged with multiple counts of misconduct in public office over claims he abused his position to try and form “improper sexual or emotional” relationships with women."

I suppose in a black humour way we could say improper sexual relationship is an improvement on rape.

If it's not a criminal matter with the police it's plain incompetence:

Thames Valley Police has accepted that the search warrants it used to search Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor's homes earlier this year were unlawful, the High Court has heard.

The force said it accepted the "initial court's decision to issue warrants under the specific piece of legislation used was incorrect" when they were given permission to search the former prince's properties on 19 February.

Ridiculous. 5-6 years back, for example, we had to involve the police over bullying of my daughter at school and via phone. The cops who visited couldn't have been nicer at putting her at ease and reassuring her.

I would suggest that you got lucky. I can guarantee you that during that whole interaction the officers concerned were looking to apportion blame to your daughter. Well done you and her for avoiding the trap.

I've had way to many interactions with the police (calm down, nothing to do with anything criminal) and have not one where I could relate such a positive outcome.

So, we're into anecdotes to prove our diametrically opposing point. Who wins?

Anybody reading my posts in this thread should do so knowing that I never, ever started off hating them as I do and seeking to avoid any interaction with them. I've got a police commendation award for actions I and my then wife took during a RTA and they even managed to take a ◊◊◊◊ on that.

Like I said and I insist. There's nothing they wont do.

I'm disappointed that you feel my experiences and observations, borne out in videos I've posted, are foolish, absurd, preposterous, or so silly that they deserve to be laughed at. I sincerely hope I never prove you wrong

Police Scotland has said 45 serving officers are currently suspended over allegations of violence against women and girls.

Chief constable Jo Farrell said she expected more would face sanctions over their behaviour following a spate of former officers being convicted for sexual offences...

She added about 8,000 members of staff were still to be "re-vetted" for their roles after a change in regulations earlier this year...

"Those investigations are at various stages."

Not all are currently part of a criminal investigation, the force said.

Entitled’ ex-police chief guilty of gross misconduct over affairs with junior officers

A former chief constable showed a sense of entitlement, dishonesty and lack of integrity by having sexual relationships with two subordinate officers, including engaging in sexual activity while on call to lead major incidents, a misconduct hearing has ruled.

The panel found that the behaviour of Scott Chilton, 53, who retired as chief constable of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight before the hearing, amounted to gross misconduct.
