Does 'rape culture' accurately describe (many) societies?

...and Dame Vera Baird said (2021) that rape has been effectively decriminalised in the UK...

How does reality grab you?

Your statement about feminism must be a reference to the misogyny in porn (and you also have said that porn is not your thing). Who knows what you think, given what we know about the industry.
No, it musn't.

And I have no idea who Vera Baird is, or why I should take her word for anything. Please tell the thread why I should.

Did you look at the Nature article etc?
#6,103.
It's transparently obvious that you are avoiding the question regarding whether or not viewing gay porn causes heterosexual people to become gay (it doesn't). So the subsequent question is "why?".

Most of us have been here years. We've seen countless examples of people who only want to attack other's positions, but do not wish to defend any positions of their own from criticism. They introduce ideas and claims in an oblique manner, resorting to "I never said that" when pressed on them. The only thing remotely remarkable about this behavior is that the ones doing it seem to think they're being clever.

I'll just repost this for those that doubt that porn is relevant to rape and sexual assault culture:
So all pornography should be judged by the worst of it? How is that not like claiming literature is harmful by citing examples of underground stories of rape and murder?

What about the linked post was not clear to you? I have answered your question so stop being arrogant fool and start heeding your own advice. I posted clear evidence that porn can and does influence sexuality - the Nature article (which didn't even require porn but just cognisance of 'sexuality is a spectrum') and a poster's personal experience.

I love how Poem keeps saying that we are making excuses. But this simply isn't true.

What we are doing is saying that we don't care. That we don't find pornography to be particularly harmful. We see little evidence that it causes people to be gay. And we don't care if it did.

I'm sure you have posted a source for this, but I haven't seen anything after a quick search of your posts.
Nobody's denying that it isn't a problem. It just means that the education system isn't fixed yet and there is a lot more to change before it is.

I'm not buying it. I'll buy that exposure to gay porn can influence someone who's already gay, but was repressing that orientation due to cultural pressures, to admit being gay. But the idea that heterosexual people are being "turned gay" by exposure to porn is utterly ridiculous. I'm reminded of a YouTube video I saw in which a conservative Christian claimed that moving from a small, rural town in the Midwestern U.S. to a large city introduced some sort of corrupting influence that caused people to "turn gay", angrily rejecting comments by those pointing out that it was simply that people who felt compelled to hide their sexual orientation due to the intolerance of their small town communities were finally freed to openly share it with a more tolerant circle of friends and acquaintances.

When I was quite young, I felt myself attracted to females long before I even had any inkling of what sex was. In discussions with friends, heterosexual, homosexual and bisexual, they've expressed the same early attraction to the gender(s) to which they are currently attracted, long before they understood anything about sex. I've yet to see any evidence that people can change their sexual orientation by willful choice or external influence. All I've ever seen is people deciding to be honest with themselves about their sexual preferences.

Lastly, I don't care if people are gay. It's nothing to be ashamed of, and they certainly don't need bigots trying to diagnose why they "turned gay" like they have some sort of disease.

I'm strongly behind the idea that sexuality is a spectrum. And not fixed in any way. More than a few gay friends have said that there is no such thing as bisexuality. That those people were secretly gay and refused to acknowledge who they are. While it might be true for some, I don't buy that either

Sex isn't who we are, but something we do. How open we are to engaging is a certain kind of sex depends on the person and where they are in their life.

I mentioned it before, if Poem's strange ideas had any validity we would never have had any homosexuals (or bisexuals) as homosexuals even today are brought up in a world that is contantly pushing hetrosexuality down everyone's throat, websites are constantly bombarding you with hetrosexuality, newspapers are full of it, you can't escape it. If all it took was exposure to a different sexuality to change your sexuality, why have we always had homosexuals amongst us?

UK children are already taught about the dangers of porn (compulsory since September 2020): distorted realities, misogyny, negative impact on relationships, consent and coercion. Since you believe that education is the fix, then please expound on where the UK's Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE) curriculum has gone wrong and what changes are required.
